Congratulations on making it to Friday! I am super pumped. We leave on our 4th annual girls trip this evening and I am super pumped! I’ll tell you a little bit more about it below. Plus we are talking about things to add to smoothies and Peyton Manning’s retirement! Here goes….
1. Peyton Manning’s Retirement: Well Peyton Manning officially announced his retirement this week. Good for him. I am happy he went out on top, especially after the rough season he had and the injuries. His brother Eli put together this video as a tribute to Peyton. It is really cool! If you have a few minutes and haven’t already seen this then I think it is worth it. I found Eli Manning’s Video Tribute to Peyton on Huffington Post along with an article written by Ron Dicker.
2.Smoothie Additions: It is not exactly smoothie weather in Colorado right now, but it is definitely getting close! I have smoothies quite a bit for breakfast in the summer time, but stick to warm foods like oatmeal during the winter. However, this article from TheDailyMeal.com 10 Things You’ve Never Thought to Put in Your Smoothies, But Should makes me want to make a smoothie right now, regardless of the temperature outside! Whey protein is on the list, which is one of the ingredients that I always have in my smoothie. However, I haven’t tried some of the others and they were quite intriguing! I’ve added avocado a few times, but definitely not regularly. It makes the smoothie extra smoooooth. I like the idea of adding beans for extra protein and some fiber! Cucumber was the other ingredient that stuck out to me. I can’t wait to try some of these…. check out the full list at the link above.
3.Strength Training: As if I needed more reasons to love strength training…. Leanne Beattie wrote this article for SparkPeople.com called Learn To Love Strength Training. Mental strength is something I’ve found with weight training as well as the physical strength. If you need more reason (health-related, but appearance related) then check out her article. I cannot express how awesome strength training can be if you try it. Strong women are awesome!
4.$20 Food Showdown: I love these types of comparisons. If you are a budget-shopper like I am then this is pretty eye opening. This article on SparkePeople.com shows pictures of several different fast food restaurant options and what you can get for $20.00. Right next to that picture is a picture of what foods you can get for that same amount of money from the grocery store! I am a huge advocate for eating at home, not eating out every meal. Not only is it good for your waistline, but it can be good for your pocketbook too!
5.Louisville: Each year my sister and two other gals (Katie & Brandy are sisters that happen to be the same age as Lindsey & I) go on a girls trip. We have been to Phoenix, New Orleans, and Austin. Tonight we leave for Louisville, Kentucky! We usually only go two nights or so, but this year we found an evening flight on Friday and a morning flight on Monday. We’ll miss just one day of work but will get two full days to explore. We are planning on touring Churchill Downs (where the Kentucky Derby is held) & the Louisville Slugger Museum, plus they have a St. Patty’s Day Parade on Saturday and bourbon tours/tasting basically everywhere. The weather is suppose to be cloudy and rainy, which is only bad because then we drink. And drink. And drink. It is going to be a blast, like every other year! Read about Austin, TX here.
Well that’s all for today. Have a great weekend! I won’t have a recipe up Monday but I can hopefully get some pictures posted next week!
