Workout Wednesday: Back Training Mixed Methods

January 20, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Back Training - Mixed Methods

Yesterday was a fun day, especially for a Tuesday! I got a new cell phone, which is always fun. I upgraded to the iPhone 6 and I like it so far. Not too different from the 5 so I can manage it for now!

Even more exciting than a new phone, we surprised my dad yesterday with an early birthday present. We managed to find four relatively-well priced tickets to the AFC Championship game this weekend as the Broncos take on the Patriots!

My dad was SUPER excited, which in turn made us really excited! We had talked about doing that for his birthday if they won last Sunday, but I didn’t realize that my dad had never been to an AFC Championship game! This is going to be awesome! We didn’t get four tickets together so Donny & I will sit together and my sister and dad will sit together. It’ll still be fun!

My dad’s tradition for Broncos games is to buy KFC fried chicken and all the sides (mashed potatoes, coleslaw, biscuits). Then you grab a case of beer and tailgate at the stadium. For some reason KFC fried chicken just tastes better while tailgating….. then after the game while you are waiting to leave the parking lot (since it is always crazy busy) you hang out and eat the rest of the chicken and sides. Boom.

Back Training

So this workout is a mixture of several training methods: supersets, straight strength sets, and a final drop set.

This Back Training – Mixed Methods workout hits all areas of your back, including upper, middle, and lower back. When training back, make sure you have a slight pause as you contract the muscles and give it a good squeeze before returning the weight to the start. It is less effective if you rush through your back training and you’ll make less progress in the long run. If you cannot hold the squeeze for half a second then the weight is too heavy. Try dropping it a couple pounds and really focus on feeling your back muscles doing the work.

All the moves are pretty straight forward and fairly common. Below are links to each exercise in case you are unfamiliar. Don’t forget Bodybuilding.com also shows you which specific muscles are being worked and also gives you alternative exercises, which comes in handy if the gym is busy!

I enjoy training back so check out my other workouts:

What is your favorite tradition for tailgating?!
