Workout Wednesday: Arms & Abs Circuit

January 13, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Arms and Abs Circuit

Do you watch The Bachelor? There is a small group of girls that I am friends with that get together each week to watch it. We actually haven’t gotten together for one it in quite a while (2 or 3 seasons maybe), but we did last night. We try to meet Tuesday nights and then watch the recording of Monday’s episode. At first we started watching it Monday night, but we would end up talking too much and miss a bunch!

It is really fun, even though I’m not a Bachelor-die-hard. We usually eat and drink wine and make fun of all the crazies on the show! There are a few on there that seem a bit whacko. Surprise, surprise.

So if I am being honest here, I do not love circuits. I realize they work and get your heart rate up really well, but for some reason they are not my favorite. I rarely choose to do them on my own. However, we need to occasionally do things we don’t want to do and that is why I made myself do a circuit.

I didn’t hate it. I actually enjoyed it! The circuit that I came up with focused on arms and abs. I know, real tricky there with the name….Arms & Abs Circuit. Woah, creative.

Basically, there are nine total moves including three biceps, three triceps, and three ab exercises. Complete each exercise in the order stated with minimal rest in between. Aim for 4-5 rounds, depending on fitness level and time.

The way I can tell that circuits really do burn a good amount of calories is because I always end up pretty sweaty after I’m done! Nothing wrong with a little sweat. I encourage it!

My heart rate stays pretty high the entire time and I get pretty fatigued, even though I’m not lifting as heavy as I can with other formats.

Below are links to each exercise in case you are unfamiliar.

Arms and Abs Circuit

Cross Body Hammer Curls

E-Z Bar Skull Crushers (this example uses dumbbells)

Crunches on Bosu

Drag Curls

Standing Tricep Extension

Zottman Curls

Tricep Pushup

Fitball Pike

Side Plank
