Anything & Everything Friday – December 18th

December 18, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday - Water Cooler

You might think I’m kidding but after the week that it’s been this seems like a great idea…… I would obviously be nice and put cups of tomato juice and orange juice around the office so that we can drink our breakfasts. Then by the afternoon we’ll be ready to switch over to other varieties of cocktails. Vodka soda with lime anyone?!?!?

Well it is time for Anything & Everything Friday where I discuss with you whatever I feel like discussing. It could be neat articles that I’ve come across or random thoughts in my head. Here goes… [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: Quad Sets – Upper Body + Cardio Burst

December 16, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Quad Set - Upper Body + Cardio Burst

Holy snow. If you live in Colorado, did you survive yesterday?!?! Schools were closed all over Northeast Colorado, but the radio world continues! It was actually a great day in the office to get things done. There was no need to go out-and-about so I got completely caught up from being gone all last week.

The wind caused quite a few drifts and it tends to drift pretty heavily by our front door and in front of our garage door. We got off work an hour early (so we could get home before dark) and my parents surprised us by coming over to help shovel! My dad & I shoveled the driveway and my mom entertained Donny. Peanut Butter Energy Bites

December 14, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Peanut Butter Energy Bites-edit

We are officially home and getting into the swing of things on our own. Sadly for me, there are no nurses (I am the nurse). Sadly for Donny, there is no morphine (too bad we couldn’t bring some home…). Friday night was rough, Donny slept through taking a round of pain meds, so early Saturday morning (as in 1:00am) he was one hurtin’ unit!

The bad part is that the pain medication doesn’t kick in right away so it took over an hour for the pain to go away. You always lose the catch-up game with Percocet. Always. Keep that in mind. [Read more…]

Anything & Everything Friday – December 11

December 11, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Smile, It's Friday

This week has definitely been different…. I am very lucky that my job and my boss allow me to take basically the whole week off to spend with Donny in the hospital. I could have tried to drive back and forth, but I would have missed visits from the doctors and everything. It was good that I was here because Donny is on a lot of pain medication so his memory might not be 100%. On that note, let’s start this week’s edition of Anything & Everything Friday by giving an update on Donny! [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: 30-Minute Elliptical HIIT

December 9, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

30-Minute Elliptical HIIT

Donny is doing fantastic! He had a full knee replacement done yesterday…. at 33 years old. His other knee was completely shot and had him in so much pain. The procedure only took a little over an hour and by the time they let me in to see him he was wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. [Read more…]

Mexican-Style Quinoa Bake

December 7, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Mexican-Style Quinoa Bake-edit

Don’t worry, I finally got our Christmas tree up yesterday! It is decorated and everything. Not only that, we also got our outdoor lights up! I had to work Snowzilla (more on that later) until 2pm and then the Broncos game started at 2:05pm.

The weather was perfect to put them up, but I wasn’t sure we’d get them done. Donny ended up getting all the lights out while I was gone and started putting some of them up on the front of our house (the hardest part). He had just made it around the first corner when I showed up.

I decided to take over for him because I honestly don’t trust him on a ladder. First of all, he has a bum knee. Second of all, he fell off a ladder once and got really messed up. No bueno. We ended up recording the Broncos game and then watching it about an hour after it started. Donny doesn’t mind that because he can fast forward through the commercials and the dead time.

Apple Blueberry Ginger Oatmeal Bake

December 3, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Apple Blueberry Ginger Oatmeal Bake-edit

Donny & I don’t get a ton of time to sit down and watch TV but occasionally we will. Recently I’ve been into the show How To Get Away With Murder. Have you seen it? It is on ABC, but the first season is on Netflix. It stars Viola Davis and I guess originally came out in 2014.

There is a lot going on and they go back and forth from current times, to things that happened months and weeks beforehand. If you’ve seen it then you know what I’m talking about, but they give you bits and pieces of what is happening yet won’t give the whole story. You learn a little more about the situation as you watch. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: Shoulder & Ab Supersets

December 2, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Shoulder & Ab Supersets

How often do you exercise? So unless I am out of town I have been consistently working out 6 days per week. I know I should probably take an additional day off, but I never really do.

However, this last week I was seriously struggling for motivation and strength actually. I felt very weak and sore everywhere. Not necessarily sore from a good, hard workout…but sore all over. I was enjoying my workouts, but not feeling quite as enthusiastic as I usually am. [Read more…]

Chipotle Chicken Soup

November 30, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Chipotle Chicken & Sweet Corn Soup-edit

Yesterday was a very productive day for me. I went to bed fairly early Saturday night so I woke up about 6:30am. Donny partied a little bit (maybe a lotta bit) so I had about four hours all to myself to get things done. The surprising thing was that Doug even stayed in bed until about 10:30am! He rarely does that…. [Read more…]
