Workout Wednesday – 30-Minute Tabata

March 9, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Tabata

Have you tried tabata before? Or done a tabata-style workout before? I love it. I need to do it more often!

Tabata is a type of HIIT training method with short bursts of high-intensity moves mixed with periods of rest. True tabata is done 20 seconds of work (as hard as you can go) followed by 10 seconds of rest and you complete 8 rounds, so four minutes total. It seems quite easy because you only have do to 20 seconds of work. The difficult part however is that the rest period is only 10 seconds, which in the last few rounds feels like two seconds! Trail Mix Energy Bites

Trail Mix Energy Bites

Did you enjoy the beautiful Colorado weather yesterday?!?! It was crazy nice out! I made sure to spend plenty of time outside enjoying it. I went to the grocery store first thing and then Donny had the grill started by the time I got back. He grilled up a bunch of food for me for the week and I got my meal prep out of the way before noon!

I took the dogs outside for a while. We think we found where Kevin got out, so we fixed it up over there and hopefully he can’t get out again. Both Saturday & Sunday I let the dogs out and didn’t have Kevin on a leash. I went out there with them and supervised, but he was still off the leash! [Read more…]

Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#6]

March 3, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Mel's Meals

Here is everything I ate this last Tuesday. We had a great meal prepping session on Sunday (very different from the Sunday before that when we lost Kevin). Donny wanted a bunch of veggies to grill for the week…. so I bought a bunch of veggies. We also picked up some cod fillets at Sam’s Club a few weeks ago and I’ve been enjoying those for a few meals each week. We are out now so looks like we need to make another trip! Well, here goes… here is everything I ate & drank Tuesday of this week. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: Strength-Power Supersets

March 2, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Strength-Power Supersets

Well it has been three whole days and we still have Kevin! He is still scared of us and every person he meets, but he is getting better. He got a bath last night and did fantastic! I put him on our bed when he was dry and he snuggled with us all night. It makes me so happy!

He couldn’t have a bath right away because of being neutered. You have to wait 10 days after they are neutered before you can bathe them. Kevin was neutered last Friday and then ran away Sunday. Once we got him back he was one stinky unit, but we couldn’t wash him! Hahaha we made it and now he is clean as can be. No more smelly Kevin. Yay! [Read more…]

Cinnamon Sugar Pecans

Cinnamon Sugar Pecans

Sorry I went MIA last week. I haven’t posted since last Friday, but it was one crazy week (to say the least).

Last Saturday we went up to Denver to pick up our rescue pup, Zeus/Kevin. He was pretty scared and tired that night, but he had just been neutered and then taken to a completely new household with people he did not know. It was understandable. He pretty much laid on our loveseat that whole evening, but he did sleep in our bed that night. [Read more…]

Anything & Everything Friday – February 19th

Friday - Show Up

This week has been quite weird. I thought Tuesday was Wednesday, that Wednesday was Thursday, and that Thursday was Wednesday. Yikes. Regardless, it is FRIDAY! Time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I discuss five random things with you. The topics range from food to fitness to anything going on in my life….. here we go.

1.Winter Hands: I don’t know about you, but my hands get crazy dry in the winter! I drink a lot of water which leads to going to the bathroom a lot, which in turn leads to me washing my hands all. the. time. The warm water and the cold weather tends to dry my hands out quite a bit…. no bueno. Check out this DIY solution that I found that is only two ingredients (that happen to come from the kitchen). Is it clean eating? No, but don’t eat it. Use it on your hands, crazy! Check out Well & Good’s solution to dry hands with Winter Hands Saved: An Awesome Treatment Using Two Items In Your Kitchen. Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#5]

Mel's Meals

Today’s Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals post is what I ate Monday. I had a weekend FULL of cheat meals and didn’t track any of my food Saturday or Sunday, which is rare for me to skip both days. I definitely felt like I needed to get back to clean foods and so I am being extra careful this week. Splurges are fine occasionally, but need to balanced back out at some point. Here goes, this is everything I ate Monday. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday – Leg & Back Supersets

February 17, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Leg & Back Supersets

I am not sure why I’ve never trained legs and back together, but I have been missing out! I have done trisets, giant sets, and circuits working both back and legs, but never done just the two bodyparts together. I really liked this Leg & Back Supersets workout!

I actually did this workout last Saturday. I definitely recommend doing this workout with a little fuel. By that, I mean eat something! I think I would have found this difficult and I wouldn’t have been able to lift as heavy if I had tried this on a weekday without any real food in my stomach. It amazes me how different I feel working out on Saturday’s when I have had breakfast prior to exercising. [Read more…]

Kale & Red Pepper Frittata

February 15, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Kale & Red Pepper Frittata

How was your Valentine’s Day?! I am not the buy-me-flowers-on-Valentine’s-Day girl. I’m a take-me-to-a-cool-breakfast-joint type of girl! We went to The Universal Sunday morning and it was fantastic. I had two over-easy eggs, an apple chicken sausage link, potatoes, and a banana nut pancake. It was awesome! I gave half my pancake to Donny (he loved it too) and I tried the potatoes, but didn’t eat very many of them. It was so good. I highly suggest going there.

We spent most of the day Saturday in Denver. We were celebrating my sister’s 30th birthday in style. By in style, I mean eating and drink all afternoon and into the evening. [Read more…]
