Anything & Everything Friday – April 29th

April 29, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday

Well hello Friday! So nice to see you again. Time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I discuss five random topics with you about food, nutrition, health, exercise….honestly, whatever I have going on in my little mind. I try to keep it health related, but not always.

Before we get started, how awesome is that picture?! I love it. A waffle is just a pancake with abs. Hilarious.

Okay, now let’s get started. Today I’m discussing Biju’s Little Curry Shop, dumbbell exercises for your rear, and the best chips and crackers for snacking. [Read more…]

Cherry Vanilla Smoothie

Cherry Vanilla Smoothie

Breakfast is definitely my favorite meal of the day, which is awesome because they say it is the “most important meal of the day”. Now, depending who you are, you may or may not agree with that. If you are not someone who can eat first thing in the morning, then don’t.

I, for one, must eat when I get up. I can occasionally make it 30 minutes to an hour without eating if I have water and coffee, but if not then LOOK OUT. I’ve been known to get hangry.  [Read more…]

Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#14]

April 27, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Mel's meals

I spent quite a bit of time in the kitchen over the past weekend. I made quite a few new recipes and also prepped quite a bit of food on Sunday. I have liked the meals I’ve had so far! Enough variation, but nothing too crazy. Here is what I ate from start to finish on Monday.

4:30am: Pre-Workout

Mel's Meals

First thing I drank 1 liter of water, half plain and the other half used to mix 1 scoop MusclePharm Assault (fruit punch). I took 1 BCAA pre-workout and one post-workout. [Read more…]

Garlic Parmesan Smashed Potatoes

I am fairly certain that I love potatoes almost as much as Bubba Blue loves shrimp on Forrest Gump.

I love all sorts of potatoes in all sorts of forms. Russet potatoes, yellow potatoes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes, Japanese sweet potatoes, fingerling potatoes…. [Read more…]

Anything & Everything Friday – April 22nd

April 22, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday

Well hello Friday. We meet again. Last Friday I was up early heading to St. Louis. Today I was up early and heading to yoga/work. Hmmm…. quite different beginnings. Either way, it is Friday and I’m happy about it! First things first, I had to use this picture for today’s post. It is in honor of my sister Lindsey Bruntz because I bought her a birthday present a year or two ago that looked quite similar to this picture. Literally has the unicorn and the ninja cat. However, I believe the unicorn has a beer in its hand (hoof?). Yes, bomb-digity. You’re welcome Lindsey. For this picture, but mostly for the t-shirt.

Now it’s time for Anything & Everything Friday. I’m going to discuss five topics with you that are generally health-related, but no promises. [Read more…]

Strawberry Banana Protein Overnight Oats

April 21, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Strawberry Banana Protein Overnight Oats

Overnight oats are one of my favorite snacks. I usually enjoy a hot breakfast because I have time to make it (eggs, hot oats, etc). However, sometimes on Friday when I go to yoga I get home a little later than normal. I don’t want to be rushed so I will plan ahead and make chia pudding or overnight oats the night before. That way, I can come home, eat, and get ready.

I was not sold on overnight oats the first time I had them. They are obviously cold and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that at first. I’d been eating hot oatmeal my whole life and trying it cold was very different. [Read more…]

Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#13]

April 20, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Mel's Meals

We got back from St. Louis Monday afternoon. Let’s just say I’m feeling quite large because we did not hold back on vacation. Ice cream, BBQ, LOTS of beer….and that was just Saturday! We had a blast but I am feeling a bit bloated still so I’ve been drinking a lot of lemon water and really watching my calorie intake. Give me a few days and I’m sure I’ll be back to normal! Here is everything I ate and drank on Tuesday.

4:30am – Pre-workout

Mel's Meals

I always drink 1 full liter of water when I get up. On week days when I workout first thing, I drink half the liter plain and mix the other half with 1 scoop MusclePharm Assault (fruit punch flavor). I also take 1 BCAA capsule pre-workout and 1 post-workout. [Read more…]

My Clean Eating Shopping List

April 18, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Grocery Shopping Guide

I honestly LOVE grocery shopping. I don’t necessarily love crowds, but if I could walk up and down each aisle and look at all the food products, read labels, and check out new items then I would be in heaven! If I could get paid to grocery shop, then I totally would.

I feel like there are list-people in this world and there are non-list-people in this world. I, for one, am a list person. I hate going to the store and forgetting ONE item because I didn’t make a list. However, I don’t always shop with a list because I pretty much know my go-to items when it comes to filling my pantry and refrigerator. If I want to try a new recipe or have a couple items that aren’t weekly purchases, then I definitely make a list. Otherwise, I have some grocery-store staples that I buy each week to use for meals. Extra Lean Italian Burgers

April 14, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Extra Lean Italian Burgers

I happen to really love hamburgers. I know a lot of people that choose to be healthy and eat healthy by being vegetarian or vegan. I support their decision 100%, but I personally could not do it. I love beef, chicken, and pork of course, but also meats like turkey, deer, bison, duck, etc.

I would not be able to ever fully eliminate meat products from my diet. So instead, I will make them healthy! One of my favorite ways to eat meat is in the form of a burger. I am American, ya know. [Read more…]
