Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#2]

January 28, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Mel's Meals

Time for my second post of Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals. My first post seemed well received (which makes me happy!) and I had quite a few questions thrown at me, which I love! If you have a question about what I’m eating or where to find something that I’m posting then feel free to ask me. Comment below, send me a Facebook message or post, or email me at eatliftplayrepeat@gmail.com… I’d love to answer any questions you have!

Let’s get down to it. This is what I ate yesterday which happened to be my birthday!!! Nothing too exciting, but Donny did stop and pick up Bonefish Grill for me (per my request) so check out what I ordered below. [Read more…]

Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals [#1]

Meals Collage

I decided to add a new weekly post! Instead of posting a new recipe, I’d rather share with you what my day looks like in terms of eating. Enter Day in the Life: Mel’s Meals posts. I’ll show you what I’m eating, when I’m eating, sometimes why I’m eating. I create recipes quite a bit, but it doesn’t really show you how I incorporate those recipes into my daily food intake. Plus a lot of times the recipes are fancier than my real, everyday diet. [Read more…]

Anything & Everything Friday – October 9th

October 9, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

smile-its-friday-quote-1

Well hello weekend. I’m so happy to see you! This week honestly went crazy fast……I honestly don’t know where the time went. Well, it is time for my Anything & Everything Friday for this week.

1. Book Club: Our first meeting is October 21st and our first book is The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I have not read any of her books but this book made it on the New York Times Bestseller list so she must be a good writer! I haven’t started the book yet, but Donny will be gone a lot this month so I can get some good reading in! Plus, we have a trip coming up (see Cleveland Rocks) and I love reading on airplanes and while at airports. [Read more…]

My New Way of Eating

December 24, 2014 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Christmas Tree

Merry Christmas! That is our Christmas tree. One of my favorite parts of Christmas is turning my tree on (it’s on whenever I am home and awake) and firing up my fireplace while I eat breakfast or dinner. It is so peaceful to me.

I cannot believe that it is Christmas Eve already…which means 2015 is just a few days away. Yikes. I have had a fantastic year and look forward to 2015 for sure. I mean, who knows what shenanigans will come Donny & my way over the next 365 days!

For the past few weeks I have been eating quite a bit differently (and no I do not mean extra holiday goodies…). I track my eating most days using My Fitness Pal on my phone. I was going through it the other day looking at how much protein I consume and I was surprised to see the real numbers. I wasn’t consuming as much as I thought! [Read more…]

Spinach Cubes

Thanksgiving is in a few days! Yay, it is such a fun holiday. We are going to Tennessee to see Donny’s sister, Cathy, and her family including her husband Jay and her kiddos Kyle, Elena, and Carly. I haven’t spent Thanksgiving somewhere other than Colorado in years….in fact, I cannot even tell you the last time I spent it out of state. [Read more…]

Benefits of Drinking Water + Infused Water Recipe

October 23, 2014 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Orange Blueberry Basil Infused Water

Have you been watching The Voice? Do you have any favorites? I am yet to find someone this season that I have fell in love with…but it is still early! There are definitely some potential candidates to steal my heart. I tend to lean more towards male voices rather than females, but there are some really awesome girls on the show too. I may not have a favorite contestant yet, but I am loving both Gwen Stefani and Pharrell. Where have they been the whole show?!? They are amazing. I liked Usher and I thought Shakira did alright but man, I love these four judges this season. Are you enjoying them? [Read more…]

My Fitness Story

September 6, 2014 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on fitness…..

Fitness Image 3

Strong is the new skinny….to get strong you need to lift weights. Lifting weights will not make you bulk up…it will make you lean and of course, strong! My goal is not to be stick thin. My goal is to be strong and healthy. However, I have not always liked lifting weights. In fact, I only found my love for it in the last few years. Here is a little background about my relationship with exercise over the years…. [Read more…]

My Food Philosphy

August 27, 2014 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

My food philosophy is pretty simple: eat clean. What does that mean?! Eating whole foods that are unprocessed and as close to their original state as possible. This means eating more fruits and vegetables. Choosing whole grains over bleached or processed ones. Getting protein from lean meats, legumes, and low-fat dairy products. Choosing snacks such as raw almonds vs. a bag of potato chips. Limiting soda and alcohol intake. Eating in moderation. Here is a great graphic by rebeldietician.us explaining the basics of “clean eating”. [Read more…]
