Workout Wednesday: Upper Body + Power

October 14, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Upper Body + Power

First of all, I’d like to point out that I successfully read Monday night for over an hour. Not to brag but I was all alone in the house (not counting Doug) and it was dark out the entire time. I didn’t even freak myself out! This time I tried reading in the living room with the lights on so I could see all around me. I figured if I could see most of the upstairs of our house (both entrances at least) then I wouldn’t be as scared. I think it worked! I didn’t let my silly mind take over and come up with hypothetical, and impractical I might add, events that would lead to me being kidnapped or murdered. I’d count that up as a big success! Shoulder Workout

October 1, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Shoulders

I’m not positive, but I think it is a bad idea to watch TV shows about food right before bed. What do we do each evening before going to sleep? Watch a TV show about food…. silly us.

I enjoy the Cooking Channel more than the Food Network these days! There are some great shows on the Cooking Channel. The newest one we’ve discovered is Taco Trip. Aaron Sanchez, from the restaurant Johnny Sanchez in New Orleans, is the host and goes to different cities in order to find the best taco in the United States. I’ll take one for the team…I will go to every single restaurant featured on this show to see if it is #1 or not. What a horrible job, but someone has to do it. I know, very kind of me. [Read more…]

Glutes::Glutes::Glutes

Glutes-Glutes-Glutes

I’m not going to lie….I have done this glute workout twice now and it made me super sore both times. I love training my legs and glutes. It makes me feel really strong and I dig it!

I have been working on my squat strength recently. I have pretty strong legs, but it takes practice to get the hang of lifting really heavy. I am still getting the hang of using heavier weights for fewer reps. I tend to keep my reps anywhere in the 10-15 rep range, but I have been experimenting lately with lifting even heavier for more like 5-6 reps. I have to play with it quite a bit to figure out what I can do, but guess what? [Read more…]

Back-Chest Supersets

July 15, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

 Back-Chest Supersets

Well Bobstock 2015 is officially in the books and it was a success! We had our best year yet. Warrant rocked the stage on Friday night and they were amazing to work with. They were really fun guys and want to come back! That’s always a good sign right?!?!

Lou Gramm was incredible – he still sounds great. I did not enjoy working with his tour manager one bit (that is putting it nicely). Lou was very nice himself, quiet but nice. His tour manager was not at all. No fun. However, once Lou performed and did amazing I decided I didn’t care that his manager was a jerk because I never had to see him again. I got to rock out to all my favorite Foreigner songs and that was enough for me! [Read more…]

June 1, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

26-bikram-yoga-poses(found on Google, free bikram yoga)

We are officially back home from our 8-day vacation. Holy cow, eight days is a long time to be gone! Donny & I had a blast and we are still married! We actually didn’t even fight….lame, right? We enjoyed each other the entire 2,700 miles. Not bad.

I have some pictures and I’ll tell you all about the trip later. Right now I want to tell you about Bikram Yoga. [Read more…]

Lower Body Blast

Lower Body Blast

I’ve been  needing some new motivation the past few weeks for my strength training. I have my go-to lifting routines and I rotate them depending on which body part(s) I want to work, but they were getting bor-ing.

Luckily I have bootcamp twice a week, so I don’t have to come up with those workouts on my own (thank you very much Jodi!). However, I try to do some type of strength training 2-3 more days throughout the week.  [Read more…]

Chest & Triceps + Drop Sets

March 31, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Chest & Triceps

We were back at it today for bootcamp! Jodi took the week off for spring break, but also to move all her stuff into the new building! The building we were in didn’t have air conditioning and this new one does. Our group didn’t have a big problem with heat because our class is at 5:00 in the morning, but those gals that go to the 11:00am or noon class…yikes. I bet it was so hot in the summer!  [Read more…]

Back-Bicep Workout

March 23, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Back-Bicep

I sometimes wish that all jobs had spring break. Do you agree? It is spring break for the Fort Morgan School District and I certainly want a whole week off to relax. Maybe I’ll put a good word in with the boss……

This weekend seriously flew by…I cannot believe it is almost Monday again. We had a great time but it was super busy. We went to see Garth Brooks in Denver on Friday night. Man, he is amazing!!! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. He is definitely an entertainer…running and jumping around on stage. It was impressive. We went to Euclid Hall in Denver before the concert for dinner and drinks. It is a really cool place downtown. Check it out if you ever get the chance. [Read more…]

Front Back Quad Sets

Where do these weekends go?!? The work week seems to go fast (which can be nice) but then the weekends fly by and it is already almost Monday again… what the heck?

Last night we had our annual Colorado Broadcasters Association award ceremony in Denver. Radio stations and television stations that are members of the Colorado Broadcasters Association can submit material in several different categories and then the winners are announced at this event. Some of the categories include Best Commercial for an Advertiser, Best Morning Show, Best Regularly Scheduled Newscast, etc. [Read more…]

My New Addiction = Foam Rolling

February 4, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

My 27th birthday was last week and what did I buy myself?! A foam roller. Does everyone else seem to get more lame each year or is it just me? Donny probably would have let me get anything I wanted…well almost anything…and I decided a foam roller was what I needed.

foam roll 4(Photo: Walmart.com)

I bought this foam roller at Walmart in Fort Morgan. It is a Gold’s Gym high-density 24″ foam roller  and it was about $18.00. Not only am I happy with my $18.00 purchase, but it is my new addiction. I have been doing research on foam rolling for a few weeks now and finally committed (most likely because I felt I could splurge on that for my birthday…since I never spend $18.00 on silly things……). I have looked at a lot of graphics for foam rolling and watched a few videos. Yet none of those things prepared me for the discomfort I would feel while using it. Good discomfort, but I won’t lie, major discomfort.  [Read more…]
