Workout Wednesday – Treadmill Incline Intervals

February 3, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Yesterday was pretty wild weather-wise in Colorado. We had a huge snow storm! I still have to work even if there is a blizzard (the radio biz stops for no one!). However, basically every single school was closed in Northeast Colorado. In fact, most of them are closed today too! Wild.

The wind howled all. night. long. and the roads were pretty bad in the morning yesterday so I didn’t make it to the gym. I thought about going to my parents and I also thought about doing a quick at-home workout. I didn’t sleep very well Monday night so at one point I woke up in the middle of the night and decided I’d just go over my lunch hour. Brilliant. I was already in town so why not. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: 30-Minute Elliptical HIIT

December 9, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

30-Minute Elliptical HIIT

Donny is doing fantastic! He had a full knee replacement done yesterday…. at 33 years old. His other knee was completely shot and had him in so much pain. The procedure only took a little over an hour and by the time they let me in to see him he was wide-eyed and bushy-tailed. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday – Strength Giant Set with Cardio Circuit

November 18, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Strength Giant Set with Cardio Circuit

A little random, but have you ever made a frittata? I see recipes for them all the time and I’d never tried it. Last night we were contemplating what to have for dinner and I suggested breakfast. Donny has a really big cast iron skillet so we decided to make a frittata. I’m in love!

No joke, it was super easy and soooo good! Since the skillet was so big we have leftovers. Yes, I did have some of it for breakfast this morning. Basically a frittata is a quiche, but without the crust. It is an egg dish that is partially cooked on the stove top then put in the over to finish. It is awesome. I might have to work up a recipe for one!

Also, our flooring looks awesome so far! I will post some pictures when it is all done. I’m really going to like it. They said three days so it might even be done tonight! Then on to decorating… yay!! [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: Ditch the Steady-State Cardio

October 7, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Workout Wednesday

I love this workout. Let me clarify, I love to hate this workout. What do I hate more? Steady-state cardio.

No, I really did enjoy the fact that this workout seriously kicked my a**. I mean kicked. my. ass. It was intense. It got my heart rate up in a hurry and it stayed there. It is one of those workouts that if you did more workouts that were similar in format they would get a little bit easier. Or at least you get use to the intensity and use to the feeling of having to push through. It always was a good reminder of why it is important to change up your workouts to challenge your body. Booty-Burning Treadmill Workout

Booty-Burning Treadmill Workout

Yesterday at the gym I tried a new workout that I found at Bodybuilding.com. It is called Nicole Wilkins’ Best-Ever Butt Workout and, let me tell you, it was a doozy. I tried part of it a couple weeks ago, but it was a Friday morning and I didn’t have enough time to do the entire thing. I decided I needed to try it out on a Saturday when I had plenty of time to spend at the gym.

If you are not familiar with Nicole Wilkins, she is a four-time IFBB Figure Olympia champion, which is one of the biggest bodybuilding competition for professional bodybuilders! She is amazing – I follow her on Instagram and Facebook and she posts a lot of good information about lifting, food, motivation, etc.  [Read more…]

Treadmill HIIT

September 24, 2014 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

I know I have announced my love of lifting several times and I still find strength training to be the best way to lose a few inches off the ol’ middle. However, I also do cardio on a weekly basis. I generally warm up with some type of cardio (elliptical, stair master, treadmill) before lifting, but I rarely spend more than 20 minutes doing so. On days that I do not lift, I try to spend a little more time doing cardio. Personally, my favorite type of cardio is high-intensity interval training, or HIIT.  [Read more…]
