I sometimes wish that all jobs had spring break. Do you agree? It is spring break for the Fort Morgan School District and I certainly want a whole week off to relax. Maybe I’ll put a good word in with the boss……
This weekend seriously flew by…I cannot believe it is almost Monday again. We had a great time but it was super busy. We went to see Garth Brooks in Denver on Friday night. Man, he is amazing!!! One of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. He is definitely an entertainer…running and jumping around on stage. It was impressive. We went to Euclid Hall in Denver before the concert for dinner and drinks. It is a really cool place downtown. Check it out if you ever get the chance.
We stayed the night in Denver and had to get up Saturday morning and get home because my parents were hosting a beer tasting party at our house. This is the sixth year that they have had this beer tasting party, but the first year it has been at our house. They bought 12 different beers — 2 stout, 2 porters, 2 IPAs, 2 pilsners, 2 pale ales, and 2 browns. My mom had me set up six different stations, one for each type of beer. About 35 people came over and everyone was randomly divided into 6 groups. Everyone had been asked to bring a different a food dish. Some were given appetizer, some soup, others, salads, etc. Then we placed different foods at each station. You got about 8-10 minutes to try both beers, rate them on a scorecard, and then try the different dishes. Sounds awful, right?!?!
Today we had a baby shower for Donny’s brother Andy and his wife Kasie. It was originally scheduled for 3 weeks ago but the weather was not good and on top of that Andy was sick. It was a guys and girls get-together and the guys played poker while the girls opened gifts! The buy-in for the poker game was a package of diapers…awesome! It was really fun. Quite a few of Donny’s family members made it to town to celebrate. Kasie only has 3 weeks or so until their due date. We can’t wait to meet him or her (and of course, find out if it is a him or her!).
So it was a really fun weekend, just very tiring. My week at work shouldn’t be too outrageously busy and I have a massage on Wednesday to look forward to! I have some killer knots in my back around my shoulder blades that have been causing me some trouble. Good enough reason in my opinion to schedule a 60-minute massage! We also don’t have boot camp this next week. Jodi is taking the week off to hang out with her kiddos and also move to her new location!
Last Thursday at the gym I did a little time on the treadmill and then did a back & bicep workout. I was on the treadmill first for about 20 minutes. My knee was a little stiff for some reason so I walked for the first two minutes, then decided to jog a little while at about 6.5mph (around 10 minutes or 1 mile). Then I did intervals, one minute running somewhere between 8.5-9.0mph then would walk at a 4.0mph for one minute (did this for four rounds, or eight minutes total). It was a nice little heart-pumping cardio session.
I decided to lift my back first and then focus on biceps. I did three back sets and then three bicep sets, with a short rest period between each set. I did the following exercises (click on the link to see a description of each exercise on Bodybuilding.com):
Wide Grip Lat Pulldown – 3 sets of 10 reps
One Arm Dumbell Rows – 3 sets of 10 reps per side
Seated Cable Row – 3 sets of 12 reps
Alternate Incline Dumbbell Curls – 3 sets, 8 each arm
Drag Curls — 3 sets of 10 reps
Standing Bicep Cable Curls – 21’s – 3 sets
These Cable Curl 21’s are a good burn-out for the end of a workout. First of all, 21 is a high rep range for me so it is more difficult, but it is also the last bicep exercise for the day so my arms were pretty fatigued. First you start at the very bottom of your curl and instead of going all the way up you stop halfway then return to the start, repeat for 7 reps. Then immediately go to the top of the curl and go halfway down, back up, repeat for 7 reps. Last, you will do 7 more complete reps, all the way down, all the way up. Pick a weight that you will be able to complete all 21 reps without fail. I have to go 10-15 lbs less than my normal standing bicep curl weight.
Since we have no boot camp this week, my workouts are going to look a little different. I definitely like letting Jodi plan my workouts for me (she is the professional after all!), but it is nice to change things up every once in a while to shock my body. I plan to lift four to five days this week (Saturday will depend on how much time I have). Here is my plan…
Monday: Legs
Tuesday: Chest/tricep
Wednesday: Back/Bicep
Thursday: Off/Light Cardio
Friday: Glute/Shoulders
Saturday: HIIT + total body supersets/trisets
Sunday: Off
Hopefully I can keep myself motivated all week on my own without the wonderful ladies in boot camp that keep me on track! Have a great (and hopefully sweaty) week!
Do you get a spring break? Are you doing anything fun?
