Anything & Everything Friday – September 18th

September 18, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Hello Weekend

Happy Friday! Here are a few things going on in this crazy brain….

2015 Olympia : It is this weekend! The biggest bodybuilding competition of the year is going on now. I don’t follow very many male athletes, but I do know quite a few of the females competitors. I’m rooting for Nichole Wilkins! If she wins then she will have won the Figure Olympia a record five times! She won in 2009, 2011, and then back to back in 2013 & 2014. I follow her on Instagram and she is amazingly fit and strong. I don’t necessarily want to look just like her but she is very motivating! I also follow Ashley Kaltwasser who will compete in the Bikini Olympia. She has won the last two years now so this would be her third straight win! I would love to go to Las Vegas some time to see this. Even to just go to the Olympia Expo would be awesome! You’d get to see so many professional bodybuilders and so many cool fitness/nutrition companies. Fitness & Bikini finals are tonight and then I believe Figure finals are tomorrow. It’ll be fun to watch!

Eat Purely

Eating Purely Cookbook: This is Elizabeth Stein’s new cookbook. She is the founder of Purely Elizabeth, one of my favorite granola brands, but she also has cookie mixes, cereals, and oatmeals! We went to her Book Launch Party on Monday night in Boulder, CO. She had copies of her book around the room to glance at (I had already gone through it because we pre-ordered it!) and then she served food and cocktails that were actually recipes from the book. It was a good time, plus she is a sweetheart.

Justin Timberlake with Jimmy Fallon’s Evolution of End zone Dancing: This video is hilarious. I absolutely love Jimmy Fallon and when he is paired with Justin Timberlake it is amazing. Click on the link to watch the video. My favorite dance is the Aaron Hernandez one. Too much!  I promise it will be worth your time.

Trip to Seattle in November: Heaven forbid we stay home for a month. Donny & I discussed doing something for his birthday in November. He originally wanted to go to New Orleans and eat at several cool restaurants. After looking at flights and at our schedules, he decided instead on Seattle! We have talked about going to Seattle for a while now and never pulled the trigger. My aunt Sue lives there and Donny lived there for a couple years after college. He still has a friend that lives out there so we’ll get to see both Tony & my aunt while we are in town. We will be there for a very short amount of time. I couldn’t take off any work so we are flying out late on a Friday night and coming home on Sunday evening. I’m guessing we will spend most of the time eating at restaurants and enjoying cocktails. We’ll walk around Pike Place Market, of course…. but between meals.  We are thinking about staying at the Inn at the Market, which is one of the top hotels in Seattle. It is the only hotel that is directly in Pike Place Market!

Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar Drinks: My mom introduced these to me recently. I drink apple cider vinegar almost every morning. I usually just mix 1 Tbsp with about 8oz of water. It is quite the interesting taste…. it took me a long time to get use to it, but I don’t mind it now. However, I’m diggin’ these pre-made drinks. They use stevia extract to sweeten the drink and helps mask some of the vinegar taste. My mom let me try the limeade flavor and I really liked it! I was at Whole Foods Monday night and bought one limeade and one ginger spice. I might have to try to mix up a nice apple cider vinegar cocktail of my own!

Halloween Costumes for pets: Some people think it is stupid, but I personally think it is hilarious! Check out these Dog Halloween Costumes.  Which one should I buy for Doug?!?!

Hello autumn, goodbye summer. Autumn officially starts on Wednesday! I can definitely feel the changes of fall already. When I leave the gym in the morning it is still dark (boo), but the nights have been getting pretty cool (yay). It is nice to be able to open the windows at night! I definitely dig fall weather. It is by far my favorite season, but sometimes we get screwed in Colorado and it goes straight from summer to winter! I love fall boots, wearing sweatshirts, fall foods and smells, leaves changing colors. It is all wonderful! Oh yeah…..then there is that pumpkin thing….

Have a good weekend! Are you going to follow the Olympia?!
