Boom Shakalaka is right! Happy Friday. What’s been going on this week!
1. Boss’s Day: Happy Boss’s Day! I hope all you bosses out there have a fantastic day. If you love your boss then make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them today and everyday. My boss happens to be my dad so I have to be careful not to confuse Boss’s Day with Father’s Day. Happy Bosses Day Wayno! Wayne is celebrating the right way with being on vacation on Boss’s day. Good decision dad, good decision. I do enjoy Wayne as a boss. On that note, can I please add this to the list of needs for KFTM? Please and thank you!
2. Candy Corn & Peanuts: There are two holidays where a few of us at our office celebrate with a candy. Around Easter we take turns purchasing Starburst jelly beans for everyone. It sits in our front waiting room so that we can all access it when we walk through the office. The other holiday is Halloween when we buy each other candy corn. Earlier this week my mind was blown when Scott and his wife Erika told me about the candy corn-peanut combination. Have you tried it? It tastes like a PayDay candy bar, no joke. It is fantastic! Clean eating? Nope. Delicious. Yep. If I’m looking at the situation with a glass-half-full prospective, then this is a smart addition because peanuts add some nice protein and healthy fats to the other sugary candy. Talk about boom shakalaka. Health food.
3. Snacking: Are you a snacker? I tend to eat small meals throughout the day, not your typical snacks. However, on weekends I occasionally like to have real snack food. Some store bought snacks can be highly processed and full of fat (the unhealthy kind) and sugars. Here are a couple lists I came across from Greatist.com that has some healthier options for store-bought snacks to grab. The first one is written by Kate Morin called “27 Healthier Store-Bought Snacks (Under 150 calories) “. The second one was written by Rose Minutaglio (also on Greatist.com) and it is more specific to chips and crackers. It is titled “The Best Chips & Crackers for Healthy Snacking”. I love looking at lists like these. I recognize a lot of the products but also find some new products that I search for next time I’m at the grocery store.
4. An Open Apology to my Thighs: This is a great article written by Caitlin Constantine from Fit & Feminist that really puts body image into perspective. It made me think about how my body performs, rather than how my body looks. My legs are strong and get me where I’m going on a day to day basis. Shouldn’t that be enough? They help me run, bike, swim, hike, skip, jump, play sports….. I could go on and on. I am pretty sure every woman at some point or another hated her thighs. It is sad that we do this. I’m guilty of it. So let’s make the decision to stop. Stop being so mean to our bodies and look at them for their function, not their appearance. I’ll work on it. Will you?
5. Pizza: October is National Pizza Month. What are your favorite pizza restaurants in Colorado? The writers at Thrillist.com believe that these are the 14 Best Pizza Places in Denver Right Now. Do you agree? Have you tried any of them? I’ve been to one of them on the list. I have a few others to add to their list though that are fantastic. Pizzeria Locale is on this list and is good. It is a quick-service pizza restaurant. They make the pizza fresh in front of you with the topping you choose, then they send it though a rotating brick oven and it cooks it in 2-3 minutes. Amazing. I also enjoyed Hops & Pie, Marco’s Coal-Fired Pizza, and also Osteria Marco (they have other food on their menu, but also great pizza). Check them out next time you are in Denver.
