Happy Friday folks! I am ready for a very relaxing weekend. Donny scheduled to have his wisdom teeth out today, but they had to reschedule. We’d purposely planned nothing for the weekend in case he was in pain and now it is completely wide open!!! This rarely happens in our world…..
Time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I share five random topics with you (of my choosing). Today we are talking about my new hair color, healthy greens and the best burgers in Denver!
New Hair Color:
I got my hair dyed darker the other day! Honestly, I’m not the type to constantly be getting my hair colored. Some because I am a cheap-ass and don’t want to spend the money, but mostly because in the past I was never consistent enough with haircuts! Now that I have a pixie cut I have to get my hair trimmed every 4-5 weeks, so I’ve learned to be consistent with that. I probably handle coloring my hair a little more often… who knows.
First of all, yes I feel like Maverick when I wear sunglasses (I’m a sucker for aviators). Second of all, yes I am an awkward-turtle when it comes to selfies. How do you find it comfortable to take these?!?!
I have to give a shout out to my hair dresser, Kiley Vonbonn. She is the bomb-digity and did a great job. I went dark, which I like doing every once in a while, but she talked me into adding a few red streaks in the front. You can’t tell in this picture, but you can see if in person. I dig it!
I won’t lie, it will be probably be another 2 years before I dye it again…. so I better enjoy it while it lasts!
Greens:
I love leafy greens. For one, they are incredibly healthy for you but two, they can be really tasty if prepared correctly. So how do you prepare certain leafy greens? Well, that all depends on which one you are eating. Some are better cooked, some taste better raw and others can go either way. Honestly, I don’t know a ton about different varieties of leafy greens. I’ve had raw spinach, raw kale, and raw romaine but I’ve cooked those three greens as well. Mustard greens, bok choy and swiss chard are some that I’ve tried a time or two, but not often.
To help both you AND me, I found A Visual Guide to Leafy Greens: How to Cook and Store Them by Colleen Rush with Greatist.com. It goes over the greens I just mentioned, but also turnip greens, escarole, and collard green as well. What are your favorite leafy greens?
Physique-Friendly Pizza:
I am all about indulging in pizza! Wood-fired is probably my favorite, but I happen to love frozen pizzas baked at home as well. Sometimes I like to indulge in pizza, but other times I want the flavors of pizza without the grease and fat.
Bodybuilding.com has a list of 4 Physique-Friendly Pizza Recipes that give you the pizza flavor without all the guilt and without having to use it as a “cheat meal”. The very last one is even a dessert pizza!
I personally like to take frozen pizzas, like California Pizza Kitchen frozen pizzas, and add my own toppings. For example, I’ve buy the CPK White pizza and add chicken or shrimp, then some vegetables as well. You can also buy plain pizza crusts or pizza dough from the store and make your own “healthier” version of pizza. The internet is full of alternative pizza crust recipes that can give you a pizza taste without all the fat and calories. What are your tips for making a healthier pizza?
Rest Days:
It is really important to take days off from training. Honestly, this is really hard for me. I love lifting and I love training, so sometimes it feels like I have to force myself to not go to the gym.
With that being said, taking rest days does not necessarily mean laying on the couch with zero movement for 24 hours. Don’t get me wrong, some of my rest days involve multiple episodes of whatever TV series I’m into at the time on Netflix! However, active recovery can be very beneficial to a training schedule. Sundays are generally my rest day and lately I’ve been taking it easy on Fridays (minus the last two Fridays).
Sundays I spend time in the kitchen and will occasionally go on a walk outside. Friday’s I’ll occasionally lift, but I try to go to yoga on Friday mornings to give my body some love! Both yoga and walking are great active recovery activities. I also encourage a lot of stretching and foam rolling on those days! Yes, beating yourself up on rest days with a foam roller is good for you.

Burgers in Denver:
Sometimes I just want a burger. I don’t want to waste the calories or fat on just a plain ol’ boring burger. I want to go all in and get an amazing burger! Anyone else feel that way? Go big or go home type of mentality?! Well there are plenty of good burger places to go to in Denver, but Zagat compiled a list of 10 New Burgers You Need to Try in Denver. Ummm, ok!
The Rajas Burger at Cochino Taco looks bombdigity, as does Colorado Lamb Burger from Chow Urban Grill. I haven’t heard much about these restaurants, so some of them must be new or under the radar. Who wants to indulge in a giant, juicy burger with me?!?!
Well that is it for Anything & Everything Friday! Have a great weekend.
