Happy Friday! Do you have a Thanksgiving hangover?!? Maybe from turkey, but maybe from booze? We had a great Thanksgiving, but it is back to work today!
Today’s Anything & Everything Friday I have a list of some healthy snacks from the grocery store, vitamin-packed foods and some makeover comfort food recipes!
12 Best Healthy Snacks:
I love making food on the weekend to get me through the week in terms of meals and snacks. Weekends however, tend to involve more actual snack foods like trail mix, pre-packaged bars, crackers, etc. Sometimes I just want those foods and sometimes I need convenient snacks like that for when we are out of town or meandering around Denver. So what are the best ones to buy? Check out Self.com’s list of Self Editors’ Choice Food Awards: The 12 Best Healthy Snacks You Can Buy.
A lot of these you’ll be able to find here in good ol’ rural Colorado! Triscuits are one of my favorite crackers. They have the perfect amount of salt for me, plus they come in great flavors. I haven’t tried Vans products, but I bet they are a good option if you are gluten-free! Check out the rest of the list and stock up if you need some convenient snack options!
Vitamin-Packed Foods:
I am ALL about nutrient-dense foods! You know this if you see what I eat. I want the most nutrients for the least amount of calories. Think eggs, chicken, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, etc. So what are the most vitamin-packed foods? Well, obviously it depends what vitamin you’re referring to. B-2 & B-3 vitamins are really important in your diet and you can easily get them from the foods you eat. Bodybuilding.com has compiled a list of The Best Vitamin-Packed Foods: B-2 & B-3. Other nutrients are important too, but for this particular article they are focusing on those two specifically. Lucky for me, some of these foods are on my list of favorite foods. Boom.
Foods to Eat More Of:
As much as I try to keep a balanced diet, there are always foods out there that I should incorporate more. Lately I’ve been neglecting seafood. I should be eating it a few more times per week, but some weeks I haven’t had any!
So what foods are a lot of people skipping? Self.com has a list of The 8 Foods Dieticians Wish You’d Eat More Of so that you can see if you can incorporate these more often. I am guilty too. Artichokes is #1 on the list and I honestly cannot tell you the last time I had an artichoke. My best guess is that it was in spinach artichoke dip along with plenty of cream cheese and/or sour cream! What foods on this list could you incorporate more of into your healthy diet?
Comfort Food Makeovers:
It is FINALLY cooling down in Colorado, which makes me crave all sorts of comfort food. I’m looking at you macaroni and cheese! I like mac ‘n cheese all year around, but I crave it more often when it is cold outside. Weird.
My Fitness Pal has gotten a list together for you (and me!) of 11 Comfort Food Makeovers – 375 Calories or Less. Yes, there is a recipe for macaroni and cheese! The chicken pot pie makeover and the chicken alfredo also peaked my interest! What are your favorite comfort foods?
Thanksgiving Leftovers:
I know I dedicated an entire Anything & Everything Friday post last week to Thanksgiving (read that post here), but I am going to talk about it AGAIN! What are you planning to do with your leftovers from yesterday? Hopefully EAT them! If you need some ideas about how to use up those leftovers, then check out this article from Delish.com 52 Ways To Totally Transform Leftover Turkey. You won’t get bored with some of these ideas!
Well that wraps up Anything & Everything Friday! Have a great weekend and stay safe.
