Time for Anything & Everything Friday! A lot has happened since the last Friday post!
Today I’m giving you an update on both Kevin and also my 2016 goals. I also found a list of some packaged foods that are low in sugar! Check these out next time you are at the grocery store.
Kevin: Kevin went to work with me all week. If you haven’t seen him everyday then you might not notice, but he is making significant progress! Last night Donny was gone and I came home to work on this blog post actually. I decided to sit on the couch instead of at the kitchen table. I was hoping the doggies would come cuddle with me and they did!!! I didn’t even have to force Kevin up there! It took him a little bit, but he jumped right up and laid his head on my arm. Adorable. If you haven’t met him yet then you might not see much improvement and might think he is a scared little dog, which he is, but he is making great strides!
2016 Goal: At the beginning of January and at the start of this last boot camp session, Jodi had us make goals. One was to be health related and the other non-health, more life related. My health related goal was to decrease my body fat by 1%. We had our weigh-outs this last Monday, but I didn’t quite make it. I decreased it by 0.5% and lost a few pounds in the process. Not too bad, but I’d still like to work towards that goal. I have been liking the 30% carbs, 40% protein, & 30% fat ratio so I am going to stick with that. The key part of the last eight weeks was not snacking on little things here and there. I was really good about it the first 3-4 weeks and then fairly good the rest of the time. I was much more conscious about the additional thing here and additional thing there, plus I honestly didn’t want to have to add it to MyFitness Pal so I wouldn’t eat it. I think that helped a lot! Jodi said her scale tested body fat a bit higher than what she thinks it really is. It will track increases and decreases in each persons numbers, but it overall high. I looked into doing the body fat testing where they weigh you in water and calculate it that way. CSU does it for a fairly inexpensive price. I might have to sign up! I’d be quite intrigued to know what my body fat is. How are your 2016 goals going?!
Oscars: Did you watch the Oscars this last weekend? I don’t particularly enjoy watching them, but I will DVR them and fast forward to see some of the big awards. I mostly enjoy the fashion!!! I love seeing all the fancy dresses and see who wears something crazy. Here is an article from Self.com that shows all the amazing red carpet fashion. I loved Charlize Theron’s red dress and I loved Tina Fey’s purple dress! Do you ever look at the dresses and then pick out which one you’d probably choose if you were going? Well I do. I would never in 1 million years wear what Charlize Theron wore, even though I loved it on her. I cannot do that plunging neckline. I would 100% have worn Tina Fey’s. What were your favorites?
The Nightingale: Did I tell you about The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah? It is the book we chose for our book club this month and it is wonderful! My mom actually got it for me for Christmas so I was super jazzed when Erika suggested it for book club. It is about two sisters in France during WWII. I love fiction books that are set during a major historical events, such as WWII. Kristin Hannah is great writer and I have been loving this book. It’d be glad to share the book with you if you want to read it!
Low-Sugar Foods: One item on the ingredient list of packaged foods that I don’t think people look at very much is sugar. I look at that quite a bit because sugar is very addicting! There are certain sugars that aren’t bad for you, such as fructose from fruit, but added sugars can be very unnecessary. It is hard to cut out sugar entirely, but here are a few packaged items that are Low-Sugar Packaged Foods (courtesy of fitnessmagazine.com). Donny introduced me to Purely Elizabeth’s products because she was/is a customer of his. She has now moved to Colorado and I’ve seen her product in a bunch of publications! It really is a healthy choice for packaged foods. She makes granola, oatmeal, muesli, and I believe some mixes for cookies and such. I have met her and she is a doll! I also love her products because they taste fantastic and use clean ingredients. I haven’t tried Siggi’s yogurt yet, but I have been wanting to and Cascadian Farms foods are always on lists of healthy packaged foods. I might have to pick some up! Check out the article, not only are these pretty healthy foods, but they are low in sugars. Win win.
Well that’s all I have for today. Have a great weekend!
