Anything & Everything Friday – March 18th

March 18, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday

I have thought this for a while… coffee does taste better on a Friday morning! Well, to me coffee tastes better on a Saturday morning while lounging on the couch in pajamas. But I dig Friday coffee too. How was your St. Patrick’s Day?! I would say mine was pretty uneventful. I did however remember to wear a green shirt and I ate plenty of green foods….as in veggies! I had broccoli & avocado for breakfast, broccoli again for lunch, Brussels sprouts for my mid-afternoon meal, and grilled green beans with dinner. Woah, tons of green veggies!

Time for Anything & Everything Friday. I’m discussing sleep deprivation, my new book club book, and the taco bed! Yes, the taco bed.

1.Food-Lovers: I love witty cartoons and the ones that relate to me the most are what make me literally laugh out loud. Here are some very cute pictures that honestly do speak straight from my food heart. My favorite is the “forgot to eat” thing. I’ve literally never once forgotten to eat. Have I missed a meal because I was too busy and couldn’t find time? Yes. Not often, but yes. Have I ever forgotten to eat? Never. I think about eating even if I can’t or don’t have time to eat.  Check this out: 10 Illustrations That’ll Speak Straight to Your Food-Loving Heart was found on HuffingtonPost.com’s Taste page.

2.Importance of Sleep: Sleep deprivation is no joke. I don’t know about you, but when I haven’t slept well multiple nights in a row I am a bear to deal with! I do not do well with little sleep. Self.com published an article by Rachel Jacoby Zoldan called This is What Actually Happens To Your Body When You Don’t Get Enough Sleep. I find it very eye opening! Lack of sleep doesn’t just effect your brain and mood (even though that’s the most noticeable). It also effects your appetite, metabolism, heart, skin, etc. So basically all those things that we think about when we think about health. Yep, it can be bad for those! Yikes. I love to sleep and, at this point in my life, have the luxury of being able to sleep as much or as little as I want. Unfortunately that isn’t the case for everyone and it won’t be the case for me all my life (well hello future kiddos). However, it might be worth looking at your schedule to see if you can find things that can go to make room for a little extra sleep (for example binge-watching TV shows every evening)!

3.Cheap Travel: Want to travel over the next year, but don’t have thousands of dollars to do so? Well Thrillist.com had this list of 10 Destinations You Can Visit For Under $25 Per Day. Yes, please. The good news was that some of the places I want to see are on this list! Santorini, Greece. Fiji. Vietnam. I’ll keep the prices in mind! I will probably wait a bit to go to Greece, but you can find a place to stay for as low as $15 per night and food on average cost $10 per day. Sweet. I’m sure there is plenty to see that costs zero dollars around that city! Are any of those locations on your Travel Bucket List?

4.Book Club Book: Our last book was The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah and it was fantastic! I am really interested in the history of the world during WWII and this book is set in France as Nazi Germany starts taking over. I had a hard time putting it down. It has definitely been my favorite book club book so far and it is honestly one of my favorite books in general! Everyone seemed to love it too. We chose The Chaperone by Laura Moriarty for our next book. It is set in New York in the roarin’ 20s. I bet it is pretty awesome. It is a New York Times Bestseller so hopefully it is good. Have you read either The Nightingale or The Chaperone?

5.The Taco Bed: Ummmm…..have you seen the taco bed?! It is officially called the blandito but, I think I need one. I was made aware of this invention while browsing my emails. Self.com sends me emails once or twice a day with cool articles, varying in topic. At the bottom they have some random links to other sites and this was one of them. They refer to it as a bed or “transformable pad for lazy living”. Hahaha lazy living. I like it and I seriously want one. Not kidding. It looks so comfortable and the fact that it is portable makes it even more appealing!

That’s it for today! Have a great weekend!!
