Anyone else love a good dirty martini?!?! Extra olives, please.
Time for the final Anything & Everything Friday post for this month. Where did January go?!?!
1.My 28th Birthday: I had such a great birthday! I was completely spoiled. Donny had the “birthday fairy”, as he called it, drop off little gifts for me all day long. He had Peppy’s coffee and some scratch tickets waiting for me when I got to work on Wednesday. He stopped by when I was at lunch and left me an unsweetened ice tea and more scratch tickets. Then in the afternoon he had flowers delivered to the office with more scratch tickets!!! It was really fun. I only won on ONE scratch ticket, but I made it count!
2.Philosophie: Speaking of my birthday, my sister got me the best homemade gift basket ever! She said she found a list online of the best healthy food and exercise gifts and just started buying all of them. Hahaha I appreciate it! I posted a picture on Instagram and can’t wait to try some of them. She put three packages of Philosophie powders in it. They are plant-based proteins blends will some awesome ingredients in them (maca, chia, cacao, etc). I had never heard of the company, but it sounds amazing! The tagline of the company is “Make every food a superfood”….sounds like me! Lindsey bought me the Green Dream, Cacao Magic, and the Berry Bliss powders to add to smoothies, yogurt, etc. I can’t wait to try them!
3.Super Bowl Stats: I don’t know much about football stats in terms of the Super Bowl, but I have some random stats about food for the Super Bowl! I got a new issue of AllRecipes magazine and it had some statistics about food and the Super Bowl. Here are some interesting facts from the magazine about American diets during the big game:
- 48 million people order some sort of take-out for the game
- 1.25 billion chicken wings are consumed
- 8.2 million tortilla chips are eaten and 8 million pounds of guacamole are consumed.
- 3.8 million pounds of popcorn and 3 million pounds of nuts are enjoyed.
- Most importantly, 49.2 million cases of beer are purchased (I am guessing most gets enjoyed)
4.While we are the topic of football, Zagat released a list of the 8 Best Places in Denver to Watch the Broncos. Of course Elway’s made the list! I also really like Highland Tap & Burger. I’d be willing to try the other places too (especially to eat).
5.Rest days: I will be honest and tell you that rest days are hard for me. I find Sunday’s the best day for me to take a rest day (mentally and physically). However, I find it hard to allow myself to take a 2nd rest day throughout the week. I will occasionally throw a “lighter” day of activity in, like steady state cardio or 15 minutes of HIIT, instead of 30, or I love Friday morning yoga. I don’t know if it is because I really enjoy exercising or if it is because I feel like I need to be exercising. I could very well be both. I know rest days are super important to training (almost as important as the actual training) and help in the long run, but I definitely need to work on adding in an additional rest day. My diet is pretty on point lately during the week, so I should take one weekday off of training. I don’t because I like keeping my routine and sleep schedule. I might have to try getting up early, but doing other activities (like blogging or recipe development or stretching). Who knows, I’ll work on it. Here is an article by Justin White on Greatist.com called “How Many Rest Days Do You Really Need?“. Check it out if you feel like you don’t get in enough rest days.
That’s it for today. Have a fantastic weekend!
