This week has definitely been different…. I am very lucky that my job and my boss allow me to take basically the whole week off to spend with Donny in the hospital. I could have tried to drive back and forth, but I would have missed visits from the doctors and everything. It was good that I was here because Donny is on a lot of pain medication so his memory might not be 100%. On that note, let’s start this week’s edition of Anything & Everything Friday by giving an update on Donny!
1.Update: They had all the papers ready to discharge Donny yesterday and then at about noon they came in and said they cancelled it because his oxygen was low. They were originally going to let him go home with oxygen, but then they were worried about pneumonia. Let’s just say I would rather him stay an extra night then have breathing problems and end up with pneumonia! Many tests later and they found out that he did in fact have the beginnings of pneumonia. They gave him some antibiotics and kept him overnight. His fever did break in the middle of the night so hopefully that is a good sign. Not sure if we’ll go home today or not…
2.Victoria Secret Models: Did you watch the Victoria Secret Fashion Show? Did you swoon over the models thin, fit bodies? I honestly didn’t watch and I think the models look fantastic, but I love a good athletic body. Maybe that is because I’ve come to terms with the fact that I’ll never be that thin or petite. I was born with wide shoulders and an athletic frame and I’m 100% alright with that. Self.com posted an article by Tatiana Boncompagni called I Ate, Drank and Trained Like a Victoria Secret Model for Two Weeks. Tatiana worked with Heather Marr, the personal trainer who works with basically every top model. She gave Tatiana a food plan and also a workout plan. The workout plan was focused on “chiseling” the muscles, not building strength or endurance. Very different from the way I work out! If you are envious of the model-body-type then read the article. It really brings into perspective how difficult it is to get that body. How many cheat meals do you get throughout the week? Zero. No thanks! I like eating clean (and I eat fairly similar to this) but I also incorporate non-clean foods occasionally. For example, going to dinner with my husband or drinking red wine!
3.Mizuna: Last weekend we checked out Mizuna in Denver. It is a sister-restaurant of Osteria Marco, one of our favorites! It was actually the first restaurant by Frank Bonanno in Denver and now he has a ton! Some others include Bones, Green Russell, Lou’s, Wednesday Pie, and Luca. Our waitress also told us that they are soon going to be opening Osteria Marco in Mexico and in Texas I believe! We shared a port-braised bison short rib and a pasta with a sauce made from cream and asparagus (with more asparagus on top) and then had crab mixed in. I had the scallops with gnocchi for my main entrée and Donny had beef wellington. Both were awesome! We shared two desserts as well, date sticky toffee pudding and this banana bread chocolate ball with salted caramel sauce. I’m not lying when I tell you both desserts were amazing. Like amazing! The banana bread one had a ball of thin chocolate surrounding it and then a warm salted caramel sauce was poured over it (in front of me) and it melted the chocolate over the rest of the dessert. It was so cool…great presentation. I would definitely recommend Mizuna.
4.Gym Tips & Hacks: Thrillist.com is a website I look at pretty often for radio show prep. The topics of the articles vary but has a bunch about bars, food, and drinking. You can choose which city is closest to you so it shows articles specific to there. However, one of the articles that popped up in my email was The 22 Worst Decisions You Can Make at the Gym. Of course I had to read it! It is pretty hilarious. If you are a gym-rat then these all make total sense, like grunting excessively, dropping weights, forgetting headphones, etc. My favorite: staring. Staring at others but also staring at yourself in the mirror. It always makes me laugh when I see a guy flexing in the mirror and checking out his physique. Hahaha do that at home!
5.Target. This e-card is pretty much accurate. I avoided going there the first few days I’ve been up here because I buy way too much while I’m there. Can you relate? I went to buy Donny a pillow so he can prop himself up and one of those EZ Reacher & Grabber things so he can get things while I am gone. Yes, went for two items. Came out with a lot more than two items. A few of the things I purchased were things I’ve been needing for a while now (new sports bras, white tank tops, etc) but I also came out with a ton of stuff I didn’t need. For example, the movie Elf and the movie Polar Express (Donny & I are planning to do a Christmas-movie marathon while he is laid up), regular bras, Justin’s Mini Peanut Butter Cups, coffee, Boom Chicka Pop Dark Chocolate & Sea Salt Kettle Corn, etc. Just so we are clear, the popcorn is fantastic! I recommend it. Anyway, I spent way too much money on things that I talked myself into thinking I needed. Man, gotta love Target!
That’s it for today. Have a great weekend! I hope we go home today and stop by and see Donny if you have time. He would love visitors!
