Anything & Everything Friday – August 12

August 12, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

FridayIt is Friday…drink a pitcher of margaritas if you want! This week went pretty dang fast, but I am ready for the weekend. Last weekend was not very relaxing so I am hoping to get some quality R&R in the next few days.

Today’s Anything & Everything Friday includes a list of healthy condiments, an article about chocolate’s health benefits and my new bootcamp goals!

Healthy Condiments:

So many condiments these days are loaded with salt and sugars! I don’t use a lot of condiments, but sometimes the foods I eat need them! They need a little something to dip in or spread on top. So what condiments are clean eating approved? My go-to condiment is yellow mustard. I LOVE plain, yellow mustard. Balsamic vinegar is another condiment I gravitate towards. Well, this list might change now that I found this article on WellAndGood.com written by Emily Laurence. It is a list of healthy condiments: 8 Delicious Condiments That Are Actually Good For You. The first one up was Primal Kitchen’s Mayonnaise made with avocado oil. I actually purchased that a while back and have been using it occasionally. It is really good! Click the link above to see the other clean eating options for ketchup, hot sauce and even a packaged dip.

Compound Exercises:

If you are short on time at the gym compound exercises give you more bang for your buck. Amy Eisinger gathered these exercises for Greatist.com’s article Work More Muscles in Half the Time With These Compound Exercises. She has it broken up into beginner exercises, intermediate exercises & advanced exercises. If you need to fit a quick workout in during your lunch break (I’ve been there), then add a few of these exercises to your routine to burn more calories in a short amount of time!

Chocolate & Health:

FridaySeems legit, right?!?!

How healthy is chocolate? It probably depends on who you talk to. I found this article, Is Chocolate Really Healthy For You, at MyFitnessPal.com. Apparently not all chocolate is created equal in the health-world. So what should you look for when shopping for chocolate? Find out by clicking the link above.

My take on chocolate is that if it makes you happy, then indulge in moderation. Don’t eat an entire one-pound Hershey’s chocolate bar daily., but an ounce or two per day will not kill you. Plus, if you track all of your food intake throughout the day, then you should be able to include a chocolate treat here and there without going over your calorie/macro goal. Even if chocolate does not have any actual health benefits it does have some emotional benefits. Let’s be honest, if I didn’t have chocolate every again I would be one mean lady!

Bootcamp Goals:

At the beginning of the year, Jodi had us make two goals for our first session of 2016. She is challenging us again with setting goals for this new session. One is fitness/health related (lose weight, lose fat, lose inches, etc) while the other is more of a wellness goal. My fitness goal for this session is to be able to do one strict pull-up. I do assisted pull-ups all the time, but I am not strong enough to do a regular pull-up. I contemplated this goal for quite some time. To be honest, I am terrified of missing this goal and NOT being able to do one at the end of the session. However, I decided to put on my big girl panties and commit to it, because it is something I’ve wanted to be able to do for a while! Wish me luck!

My wellness goal is to floss my teeth every. single. day. Yes, every day. I need to make it a habit so that I no longer have to have cavities filled!

New Girl Scout Cookie Flavor:

Um…. did you see that Girl Scouts are coming out with a new cookie?!?! Wednesday was National S’mores Day and the Girl Scouts announced the release of Girl Scout S’mores! There will be two different varieties to choose from. Read about the two variations at Delish.com’s article There’s a Brand-New Type of Girl Scout Cookie, And It Looks Amazing.  I came across this article as I was preparing for my radio show. I want one of these dang cookies now! Sadly, we have to wait. They will be available for the 2017 cookie season. How many days exactly is that? Should we start a countdown?!

Well that is everything for today’s Anything & Everything Friday. Have a great weekend!
