Anything & Everything Friday – April 29th

April 29, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday

Well hello Friday! So nice to see you again. Time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I discuss five random topics with you about food, nutrition, health, exercise….honestly, whatever I have going on in my little mind. I try to keep it health related, but not always.

Before we get started, how awesome is that picture?! I love it. A waffle is just a pancake with abs. Hilarious.

Okay, now let’s get started. Today I’m discussing Biju’s Little Curry Shop, dumbbell exercises for your rear, and the best chips and crackers for snacking.

Flowers: I have been in the habit of buying myself flowers. That’s not bad, right?!?! Donny would absolutely buy me flowers more often if he knew I wasn’t such a cheap-ass. I have been buying certain bouquets at Safeway when they look good. I like to have some fresh flowers occasionally on our kitchen table. It makes me happy to see them when we eat at the table. I try to spend less than $10 for the bouquet and I have plenty of vases on hand. I know flowers die so some people see them as a waste of money, but I figure $10 every other week or so isn’t so bad… since they do make me happy. Do you ever buy yourself flowers?

Chinese Takeout: We actually got take out this week, which is rare for us! We had planned to take some food over to our friend’s house and they ended up asking if we could reschedule. We had both been looking forward to Little Bamboo so, for emotional reasons, we stuck with the plan and got Chinese/thai takeout anyway! There are a ton of options when it comes to Chinese takeout, including a ton of very unhealthy dishes. They are delicious and can be worth the splurge, but it depends what your goals are and maybe how your week has been. I was not wanting to 100% dive in to a splurge (I did that plenty in St. Louis!) so I stuck to a pretty healthy meal this time. Little Bamboo in Fort Morgan has several steamed plate options. You can get chicken, beef, or shrimp with steamed veggies and sauce on the side. It can also come with brown rice! When we get takeout, it is almost always Little Bamboo and I generally order either chicken with steamed veggies or shrimp with steamed veggies. If you are a Chinese food fan but like eating healthy too, then check out this article 12 Dietician-Approved Chinese Takeout Dishes from My Fitness Pal. These are not necessarily low-calorie options or low-fat options, but they at least provide some vegetables and nutrients. I love beef with broccoli, miso soup (I crave it…often), and egg drop soup. There are also several things listed that I’ve never tried and might need to, including Moo Goo Gai Pan and Chinese Eggplant with Garlic Sauce. Mmmmm we might have to get takeout again soon!

Dumbbell Exercises For Your Rear: Who doesn’t want a nice, round butt? I know I do! I love training glutes, but I need to add a little variety to my lifting mix. I will have to try mixing in a few of these dumbbell exercises along with my squats, deadlifts, and lunges. Read 6 Incredible Dumbbell Exercises For Your Butt by Bari Lieberman on Self.com to find out a few exercises to add to your lower body days.

Biju’s Little Curry Shop: We saw this restaurant on Diner’s, Drive-ins, & Dives and have wanted to try it out since. I am not that familiar with Indian food, but Donny made me some chicken tandoori a while back and I loved it! We are planning on heading up to Denver, weather permitting, on Saturday to get me fitted for some new golf clubs (whoop whoop…. my husband spoils me)! While we are there we decided to try a new lunch spot. I sent him over four restaurants I was wanting to try for lunch and he picked Biju’s Little Curry Shop. It is like the Chipotle of Indian food. I can’t wait! I think I want to try the Coconut Chicken, but who knows what will happen once I walk in the door! I’ll keep you posted.

Healthy Snacks: When I snack I like a little crunch. What about you? I even like my fruit and veggies to have a little “snap” if you will. Yum. Well the best crunch you can have to a snack is chips and crackers, am I right? Well here is a list of The Best Chips & Crackers for Healthy Snacking by Rose Minutaglio on Greatist.com. I have tried a few of them listed, or at least the brand. I love Food Should Taste Good products and those dang Terra chips are addicting! I could eat an entire bag, honestly. I also like the Beanitos brand of chips, especially the black bean chips with some salsa or guacamole. Delish! Have you tried any of these chips or crackers on the list? Did you like them?

That is all for today. Have a great weekend!
