Anything & Everything Friday – April 1st

April 1, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday

I cannot believe it is Friday already! Happy April Fool’s Day! Any pranks pulled on you yet? Have you pranked anyone today?!?! Well, good luck. Donny was gone all week which can sometimes make the week go by slow. Not the case. Not the case at all. I was really busy at work and it wasn’t even beginning-of-the-month stuff. It was just plain busy. Good busy, not stressful busy.

Time for Anything & Everything Friday! I have several links for you including one to help you master the Whole Foods salad bar like a champ and still have money afterwards. I also have a list of some cities for a weekend getaway and I have some questions for you about this blog, Eat. Lift. Play. Repeat. Let’s get to it, shall we?!?!

1.Whole Foods Salad Bar – The Whole Foods grocery stores that have the salad bar (and basically an entire food court inside them) are like heaven to me. Pure heaven! Have you eaten at one before? Sometimes Donny & I will plan a “date” and grab lunch/dinner followed by grocery shopping. I typically only buy things at Whole Foods that I can’t get at any other grocery store, because it is so dang expensive! The salad bar can get pretty pricey too, but I love it so I am willing to occasionally pay for it. I found this article Cheap Salad Hacks at Whole Foods by Kristin Schwab and it is perfect for me, because I am cheap, but like to eat healthy! It is not a funny article, but I laughed a lot throughout because I could see myself walking around the salad bar and considering what to put on my salad for the best price. For example, no steamed veggies but lots of salmon! Steamed veggies are a lot of water weight, so you are better off with raw or grilled. Salmon is expensive if you were to buy it to make something at home, so it is technically cheaper if you get it at the salad bar. Bam, being thrifty at the Whole Foods salad bar. Check out the article… now I can’t wait to go back to use these tips!

2.Picking Perfect Produce – I came across this article You’re Probably Shopping For Vegetables Wrong. Here’s How To Do It Better by Julia Belluz & Javier Zarracina while browsing emails the other day. It took me to Vox.com, which I was not familiar with but the article it quite helpful! It shows you pictures of produce that peaks in the spring and then explains (so it makes sense to the average person) what to look for when purchasing produce. It goes through beets, artichokes, carrots, leeks, etc and tells you what to look for, what to feel for, flavor differences, etc. I know what I prefer with my go-to fruits and veggies, but I can be intimated picking produce when I’m not familiar with it. Click over to read more about how to pick produce and keep the tips in mind next time you are grocery shopping!

3.Pinterest – Are you on Pinterest? I go back and forth between which social media site I like better, Pinterest or Instagram. As of this week, I am more into Pinterest. However, a couple weeks ago I was all about Instagram. Hahaha I go through spurts! I do love how easy it is to find recipes on Pinterest, especially clean eating recipes. Here is a roundup up of boards to follow: 5 Awesome Pinterest Boards for Easy Clean-Eating Recipes by Heidi Pashman. I already follow Amy’s Healthy Baking & Lexi’s Clean Kitchen and they are so awesome! I shared a pumpkin spice coffee creamer recipe with you this last fall from Amy’s Healthy Baking. She’s awesome! If you are on Pinterest and want more clean eating recipes, then check out that article. Also, follow ME on Pinterest of course! I am @eatliftplay.

4.Weekend Getaway – Anyone need a weekend getaway. I don’t need one right now, but always like to look at lists to plan future vacations with Donny, our families, or future girls trips. Here is an article from Thrillist.com The 25 Best US Cities To Spend A Weekend by Matt Meltzer. I would honestly go to every. single. one. of these places, but I am also not too picky when it comes to travel! I have been to quite few already….Kansas City, Cleveland, Washington DC, Madison, Seattle, NYC, Savannah, Vegas, Charleston, Austin, San Francisco, New Orleans, Nashville, and Boulder of course….holy cow, I’ve been to a LOT of them! I have not been to Pittsburgh or Philly and they are both on my travel bucket list. I am going to Portland, Oregon this fall for my cousin’s wedding so I can cross that off the list soon. I’d like to spend some time in North Carolina and also in the Northeast part of the United States. Matt Meltzer, the author of this article, was spot on. Way to go Matt. I would go to any one of these places in a heartbeat for a quick vacation! What cities on this list have you been to? What cities are on your travel bucket list?

5.Blog – I signed up to take this online course Pinfinite Growth in my spare time. It is actually a course for someone with a blog or website that wants to increase traffic via Pinterest. I love it! It has me really thinking about my blog as a whole and what I really want to focus on. I have decided to ditch the workouts and focus on fooooood! It is my favorite part, but it happens to be the most time consuming. I decided to change it up and do two recipes per week or so, Day in the Life posts, and Anything & Everything Friday posts. I would like to add another weekly post, but want to know what you are looking for when you read my blog. Do you want more recipes? Cooking tips and tricks? Snack ideas? Meal prep? What do you have questions about or want to know more about? I’d love some feedback. Either comment below, send me a message on Facebook, or email me at eatliftplayrepeat@gmail.com.

Well that is it for today! Hope you make it through April Fool’s Day without being damaged by too many pranks! Have a great weekend.
