Happy Friday! I don’t have very many plans for this weekend so does anyone want to partake in a “juice cleanse”?!?!?
Donny is out of town and I have zero plans. That’s right, zero. I am actually looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Hopefully I’ll get some cooking, reading, exercising and meal prep in! Sounds like a pretty good weekend to me (minus the whole no-husband thing). Do you have any big plans?
Time for Anything & Everything Friday. Today I have some awesome shrimp recipes plus I’m discussing different coffee drinks and exercising when you are sick!
Medicine Ball Core Exercises:
We do quite a few core exercises in boot camp that require a medicine ball. I honestly don’t know why I don’t use one more often on days I train on my own! Medicine balls are great for a variety of weight training exercising (including abs) and they allow you to move differently compared to using dumbbells. Greatist.com compiled a list of 10 Medicine Ball Moves to Build Serious Core Strength. I enjoy russian twists with a medicine ball and the medicine ball twists (similar, but slightly different). The ones that intrigued me from this list were the reverse med ball plank and the medicine ball boat balance. Check out the full list at the link above and say hello to your ab muscles!
Shrimp Recipes:
For meal prep this week I decided to add shrimp into the mix. I rarely cook shrimp to take with me for midday meals. Occasionally we’ll have shrimp for dinner, but I don’t usually cook it during meal prep. With that being said, I LOVE shrimp. Seriously, I love shrimp. Donny does a lot of Cajun boils (or used to do a lot) and it is embarrassing how much shrimp I can eat in one sitting. It is not a food that makes me feel full and I love it, so I can just keep shoveling it in. Lucky for me, it is high in protein and low in calories! Yay!
Do you cook shrimp very often? If not, maybe you’ll start once you looked through these recipes. Holy cow, Greatist.com has a list of 9 Shrimp Recipes Jam Packed with Flavor and they all look bombdigity! I honestly could see myself making every single recipe on the list! If you have ever eaten at Bonefish Grill then you’ll probably be as excited as I was about the Paleo Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos!
Excuse me, what? Did you say paleo BANG BANG shrimp tacos? Um, yes please! Check out the other eight recipes and let me know what one looks the best to you! Anyone want to cook some shrimp this weekend?!
Exercising While Sick:
Should you exercise when you are sick? Honestly, that is a difficult question to answer. It all depends on your sickness and what symptoms you have. A good rule of thumb is that if is it sinus related and in your head then yes, you can still exercise. If it is in the chest (or below) and includes body aches then give yourself permission to skip the workout. Light exercise can help get blood pumping which can help a minor sickness, but too much exercise or too intense of exercise can make you feel worse.
When making your decision it is also a good idea to be courteous of other gym-goers, which is another reason to assess the symptoms you have. Do you have a runny nose that is dripping all over everything? I, for one, appreciate you skipping that day! Pizza Menu:
Donny is traveling in Europe for work for a while and he sent me this picture the other day. It kills me! I’m sure we do this to other countries when it comes to food, but I had to laugh at this.
The “Americana Pizzas” have some very odd pizza toppings. The New Yorker and the Chicago aren’t too weird, but what is reggae reggae sauce on the Boston pizza?! More importantly, why do people in New Jersey make hot dog pizzas and not share those with the rest of the country?!?! Hahahaha the New Jersey pizza is by far my favorite. It contains hot dogs, ketchup AND an American mustard finish. I like hot dogs with ketchup and mustard, but I’m not too sure about this! What do you think Europeans who eat the New Jersey pizza think of our cuisine?!?!
Coffee Drinks:
What do you order when you go to a coffee shop? I generally drink regular house drip coffee, a café au lait or, as of lately, Americanos. Honestly, I don’t venture too far from those three. I used to be a latte girl, but now they seem really sweet to me. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll occasionally crave a vanilla or pumpkin spice latte, but I generally stick to other coffee drinks.
So what are all those fancy schmancy drinks on the menu anyway? Well, Greatist.com has an article by Rebecca Firkser on their website A Visual Guide to Coffee Drinks, So You Always Know What to Order. It is pretty informational when it comes to the different combinations you have. Drip coffee, espresso, steamed milk, thin foam, thick foam, etc. Check out the list if you aren’t too familiar with the different coffee choices. Maybe next time you’ll get crazy and order something new and different!
Well that wraps up Anything & Everything Friday! Have a great weekend. If you feel like cooking shrimp NINE different ways then hit me up!
