This has happened to me a hundred times…..what about you?!
Happy Friday!!! This week flew by, it was crazy. We have Bobstock, our biggest event of the year, coming up four weeks from today! Holy sh*t, is what I say. We had meetings every day this week and I think I have meetings involving Bobstock of some sort every day next week. It is getting real….
By the way, Grand Funk Railroad is our headliner for Bobstock 2016, so if you are in the Fort Morgan, CO area then make sure you are at City Park on Saturday, July 9th to see them perform FOR FREE! It is going to be awesome.
Anyway, enough shameless plugs from me…. time for Anything & Everything Friday where I share five random topics with you each week. Today I’ve got articles about washing workout clothes, how to make the perfect salad, and some Father’s Day gift ideas!
Father’s Day:
Have you decided what you are getting the dad in your life yet?!? Father’s Day is going to be here before you know it…. as in it is one week from Sunday. You’re welcome. If you have an active dad then maybe he wants something to help keep up his healthy lifestyle. Maybe a fitness tracker, a massage, some grilling tools (maybe he really loves food too). Here is a list from SparkPeople.com of 10 Fit Gift Ideas for Father’s Day.
If your dad loves coffee then maybe you want to get him one of these sweet mugs! Delish.com put together this particular list of amazing coffee cups. They say ridiculous, I say amazing! Check it out. The first one is my favorite!
Dieting:
Zach Watson wrote this article for Greatist.com This Guy Ate Chipotle Every Day For A Year To Prove A Point About Dieting. I love this article! A guy named Devin Cunningham ate Chipotle every day for an entire year. He did so to prove that you can still eat the foods you love without gaining a ton of weight. He actually lost weight and, if you click to the article, you can see he has some pretty dang nice abs even after enjoying Chipotle for a year! It is all about portion control and knowing what you are putting into your body. I am a huge advocate for tracking what you eat (I do it literally every. single. day) and tracking your food allows you to eat the foods you love every day while still keeping in your calorie range or macronutrient range. If you haven’t done so yet, check out Devin’s abs read the article.
Fast Food vs Fast Casual:
This might sound counter-productive to what I was just talking about, however, it is not. Fast casual restaurants are better for you than fast food restaurants, right? Isn’t everything better for you than fast food? Turns out, not so much! Alison Spiegel wrote this article for TastingTable.com Not So Fast and talks about this study that was done comparing the two dining options. Turns out, the average fast casual entrée has more calories than the average fast food entrée….by 200 calories! Now don’t get me wrong, not all fast food is good and not all fast casual is bad. However, if you always thought Chipotle was better than McDonald’s in terms of health, then you were mistaken. In my opinion, there are plenty of healthy options at both of those restaurants, you just have to be smart about what you order! I mentioned this is the “Dieting” section above, it is about portion control and tracking what you eat. Both of those are super important if you want to maintain a healthy weight (even lose weight) and still eat foods you love.
Homemade Salads:
So you want to start eating healthy and the summertime is the perfect time for fresh salads, right? Well picking the wrong ingredients for you salad can lead to a lot of calories or worse, leave you starving an hour later! Willa Tellekson-Flash wrote this article, The Five Items Every Salad Needs, for Well & Good that helps you make the perfect salad. It starts with the obvious, greens! Then moves on to toppings including different grains to help you stay full longer, enough protein to make sure your body is functioning the best it can, and some fun in-season produce to add flavor and texture. Goodbye boring salads and hello light, healthy lunches!
Washing Workout Clothes:
I don’t know about you, but I have enough workout clothes to last me a couple weeks before running out! Yes, it is an addiction I am well aware of. I have my favorite leggings and favorite tank tops and such, so I actually try to do one load of workout clothes each week. I will sometimes throw other items in with them and other times it will be strictly workout tops and workout bottoms. So what is the best way to wash workout clothes? I read this article How To Wash Your Workout Gear on MyFitnessPal’s website a while ago. I actually started using some of these techniques and like it! I try not to let my workout clothes sit around for too many weeks before washing. I’ve started using a lot less detergent. I use cold water and dry them on low, rather than hot. Check out the other tips using the link above.
Another tip I read somewhere else was to not dry your workout bottoms. I guess the extra drying can cause the bottoms to wear out quicker, so I’ve started air drying all my bottoms (minus the older ones that have been dried 100 times already). What tips do you have for washing your workout gear?!
That’s it for today’s Anything & Everything Friday! Have a great weekend.
