Seems like a long week since we had to work all five days! We got spoiled over the holidays with two 3-day weekends in a row. This week flew by but it still seems like we should have today off, right?!? Anyone else agree that not having to set an alarm for Saturday morning is pure happiness? Hahaha I love when I get to sleep in on a Saturday morning with no where to be. Awesome.
It is time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I discuss the random thoughts and happenings from the week.
1.Bootcamp Goals: Jodi had us come up with two goals, one health/fitness goal and one lifestyle goal. She is holding a challenge for all the girls in bootcamp. One challenge is weight-loss specific, the person that loses the highest percentage of body weight will get the next session free. Whhaaat? Free bootcamp? Awesome. The other challenge will be Jodi’s choice of whoever she felt did the best throughout the challenge to reach their specific goal (that person also gets a free 8-week bootcamp session). My health/fitness goal is to decrease my body fat by 1%. I have a bigger body fat loss goal, but with talking to Jodi she thought 1% was obtainable in 8 weeks. We’ll see! My lifestyle goal is to limit excuses to other people. For example, telling someone that I didn’t do something because I was “so busy”. We all know that is an excuse. Whether you are busy or not, you chose to do other things besides that one thing. Instead of blaming it on being busy, I’d like to instead say something like “I did not get that done, I’ll get to that as soon as I can”. Similar answers, but instead of an “excuse” it is a statement (“I did not do that”). Make sense?
2.Twelve Reps: When I lift, I like to use rep ranges between 8-12. Want to know the real reason I enjoy 12 reps the best? It has nothing to do with muscle or anything science based. Honestly I enjoy talking myself through that rep range because almost every number is a multiple of 12. As I am lifting I will talk myself through the set by counting the reps in my head and thinking 1…2 (“I’m 1/6 of the way there”)….3 (“I’m 1/4 of the way there”)…..4 (“I’m 1/3 of the way there”)….5…..6 (“I’m 1/2 of the way there”)…..7….8 (“I’m 2/3 of the way there”). Yeah, I’m not kidding. This is what goes through my head the entire set and this is why I prefer to hit 12 reps, instead of 10 or 15. Weird reasoning, I know. In my defense, this is Anything & Everything Friday.
3.Cruella: Did you hear that Disney is working on a live-action film about the origin of Cruella de Vil?! You know, the villain from 101 Dalmations? I love this idea. It is such a classic movie and her character is so interesting. Hollywood Reporter announced that Emma Stone is in the running to play Cruella. I love Emma Stone! She does such a great job in movies…. some of my favorite are Easy A & Crazy Stupid Love.
4.Cart Driver & Uncle: Last weekend Donny wanted to get out of the house so we decided to go on a date in Denver. We drew a restaurant out of our box and it was Cart Driver! Cart Driver specializes in two things: wood-fired pizzas and oysters. We tried two different pizzas: the Cart Driver with sausage, kale, mozzarella, and chili flakes (I posted a picture on Instagram) and then we shared the Four Seasons on their chick pea crust. Both delicious! The Four Seasons was split up into four sections, each with burrata and pesto. One section had pear, another ham, then potato, and winter squash. They overlapped a little, which was cool and added to the flavor combinations. The chick pea crust was really good. I preferred the regular crust (for obvious reasons) but I would love to try to recreate the chick pea crust and it is good to know it tastes good for people eating gluten-free. Now on to Uncle. Uncle was the highlight for me! For some reason I’ve been craving Asian food and Uncle is all about ramen. We tried a pork belly steam bun and also a soft-shell crab steam bun. Very creative. In terms of ramen, I got the Spicy Chicken Ramen. I kid you not, I have been thinking about that dang bowl of noodles all. week. long. It is ridiculous how much I loved it! I want to go back so bad…
5.Running Tips: Unless you are a die-hard outdoor runner, it is hard to get out in the cold! Treadmills get a bad rap for being oh-so-boring and, honestly, they can be! Celebrity trainer David Siik has an article on Well + Good called 5 Common Mistakes You’re Probably Making on the Treadmill. Read through all five and think about them next time you have to get some cardio done on a treadmill! He discusses posture, stride, and where to place yourself on the treadmill (front, back, etc).
That’s it for today! Have a great weekend and Monday I’ll have a recipe and an update on Guard and Grace!
