You might think I’m kidding but after the week that it’s been this seems like a great idea…… I would obviously be nice and put cups of tomato juice and orange juice around the office so that we can drink our breakfasts. Then by the afternoon we’ll be ready to switch over to other varieties of cocktails. Vodka soda with lime anyone?!?!?
Well it is time for Anything & Everything Friday where I discuss with you whatever I feel like discussing. It could be neat articles that I’ve come across or random thoughts in my head. Here goes…
1.Donny Update: it seems like a million years ago that we were sitting in the hospital waiting for Donny to be discharged. The days have been going fast but time has been a weird thing lately. Donny has done great this week! The pain is obviously still there but he has his third day of physical therapy today. He rocked it yesterday and got his knee to bend 55 degrees! On Monday he could only get it 45 degrees so that is some good progress in a short amount of time! He is getting around the house a little better these days but gets tired pretty easy.
2.Ice Sculpting: We are about to wrap up all of our Christmas Capital of the Plains events tomorrow. It has been a good year but really busy. It doesn’t help that I was gone for four full days right in the middle of it all…. anyway, back to the point: ice sculpting. Our company is hosting the 4th Annual Amateur Ice Sculpting Competition tomorrow. It is so fun. We started it the first year we did the Christmas Capital events and we seriously have a blast. I haven’t done any carving myself but it looks quite difficult! We do have a few teams that have really gotten the hang of it and create some awesome sculptures of ice. We actually give the teams a theme and then let them be creative with it. This year the theme is “stockings hung on the chimney with care”. The teams get to sculpt for 2 1/2 hours and then the public gets to cast their vote on their favorite. The sculpture with the most votes wins! If you live in Northeast Colorado then you should come down to it (starts at 10:00am). It is wild how good some of these sculptures are in the end!
3.Convenience Foods: Convenience foods get a bad rap for being full of artificial ingredients, fat, sugar, empty calories, etc. However that isn’t ALWAYS true. More and more health food companies are coming out with healthy foods that make it easy to whip up dinner in a flash. Greatist.com compiled a list for us (talk about convenient) of the Best Healthy Pasta Mixes & Grains. The products were chosen based on certain guidelines, for example must have recognizable ingredients, sugar cannot be listed as the first ingredient, and (my favorite) have a reasonable price tag. I recognize a lot of the companies, but had not seen some of these products. I’ll have to keep an eye out grocery shopping! Donny might like the Tasty Bite Pad Thai and the Lundberg Red Beans and Rice!
4.Christmas Presents: Do you have all your Christmas shopping done? Need any stocking stuffers for your family or friends? I think we have everything covered but I want basically every item on this list. Self Magazine published this article 27 Insanely Awesome Stocking Stuffers Under $15. I mean, an adult coloring book?!?! Yes please. Pug socks? Uh, yeah. I don’t even own a pug and I want these. Jessi Bruntz you NEED those! I also might legitimately buy the SomeEcards calendar. Ecards are too funny.
5.Holiday Cooking: Speaking of Christmas, what are your plans? Are you hosting? In charge of bringing something to your get together? Well PureWow put together this recipe round-up for Self.com called 15 Holiday Recipes You Can Make In A Crock Pot. Yes, make your holiday dishes in a slow cooker. Doesn’t get much easier than that! I will take one serving of the Brussels sprouts and one serving of the spinach artichoke dip. Who am I kidding, I’ll take TWO servings of each! Yum.
Well have a great week. Next Friday will be Christmas!!! I hope you’ve been good this last year so Santa treats you well. Merry Christmas!
