Anything & Everything Friday – November 20th

November 20, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday Make Stories

I love waking up on Friday morning knowing that I am a few hours away from the weekend. Yesterday felt like Friday to me. I hate when that happens because who wants two Fridays?!?!?!

Regardless, today just so happens to be Friday. Time for my Anything & Everything post where I discuss any random thoughts, articles, or ideas I’ve had this week. Here goes…..

1. Seattle: We leave for Seattle tonight! It will be a crazy-fast trip, leaving tonight and getting back late on Sunday. Basically we are going to celebrate Donny’s 33rd birthday and eat. Mostly eat though. We will actually celebrate by eating. Are you catching on? We are staying at a pretty cool hotel, the Inn at the Market, which is literally in Pike Place Market. Pike Place Market happens to be one of my favorite places in the world. I just love markets. They are so awesome! My aunt Sue lives there too so we will meet up with her Saturday or Sunday. I wish we could stay a bit longer, but it just didn’t work out that way.

2. Thanksgiving: It is less than one week away, can you believe it?!? Do you have plans? We are going to my mom’s house this year and Donny’s parents are headed for Tennessee. We are in charge of preparing the turkey and the ham for our get-together. When you think of Thanksgiving, you think of food of course. Feel free to indulge a bit, but you don’t have to go so crazy that you are miserable. Don’t deprive yourself, but be conscious of what you are eating. I love this article from Delish.com: What Your Favorite Thanksgiving Dishes Look Like in 200-Calorie Portions. I love the tag line at the top too….”Bad News: Not A Lot of Stuffing. Good News: Two Glasses of Wine!” It is all about priorities, right?!?!

3. Sweet Potatoes vs Yams: While we are on the subject of typical Thanksgiving foods…. do you know the difference between a yam and a sweet potato?! Yep, me neither! I found this video “What’s the Difference Between A Sweet Potato & A Yam”  in the Taste section of HuffingtonPost.com.

4. Exercise: Now that I’m done talking about food, let’s talk exercise. This is a really cute article by Zahra Barnes called 16 Ways Life Changes When You Start Working Out More. I can relate to a lot of them……..I wake up in a good mood (I am technically a morning person), I spend money (on nice shoes, workout clothes, healthy food to fuel my workouts, etc), and I’m full of energy. I haven’t completely “broken up” with alcohol, but we see each other much less often. I wish I could relate to the “I meet more dogs”. Maybe I should start jogging outside?! Can you list some of the ways that exercise has changed your life? They can be big changes or small changes.

5. Tile Flooring: Our basement tile is done and I looooovvvveee it! It looks so nice. Frenier’s did a fantastic job! I’d recommend them to anyone. Here are a couple (pretty bad) photos of the finished tile. It looks like hardwood, but it’s tile. Again, I love it!

A few years after I began weight lifting I got more serious about fueling my workouts. I started trying to get 40% of my calories from protein, which is not that easy to do! I prefer to get as much protein as I can from whole foods, such as lean meats, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, etc. […]
