It is Friday! Not only that, it is the Friday before Halloween!!!! Have you bought your candy for trick-or-treaters? Or are you the trick-or-treater? Either way, it is time to recap the week based on my thoughts and randomness. Here goes….
1. Halloween: Happy Halloween everyone! It is tomorrow, can you believe it?!?! Are you dressing up? Or are your kiddos dressing up? What are the costume choices this year? One last question, how adorable are these two kids? That’s me and my sister in the early 90s (I’m the tiger, she is the bumble bee). Too cute.
2. National Chocolate Day: Wednesday was National Chocolate Day so according to Huffington Post, here are the 75 All-Time Best Chocolate Recipes. Are these clean eating? Nope. Far from it. But sometimes you just need something delicious and chocolatey.
3. Skinny Pumpkin Spice Creamer. I read Amy’s Healthy Baking blog fairly frequently. She takes beautiful photos and makes some really delicious looking muffins, scones, breads, you name it…if it is baked, she’s probably experimented with it. She posted a recipe for Skinny Pumpkin Spice Coffee Creamer the other day and I HAD to make it. It has only 10 calories for 1/4 cup. Whhaaa?!?! I know, right. It uses unsweetened cashew milk, pumpkin puree, and a few spices. I have been drinking it all week. I honestly want to drink it out of the glass. It isn’t as dramatically flavorful as a store bought creamer, but I’m willing to trade in those creamers for clean ingredients that are inexpensive. It gives your coffee a nice subtle pumpkin spice taste. It would be really good if you added it to pumpkin spice coffee…. Mmmmm. Check out her blog and her recipe at the links above.
4. Low-Calorie Foods: I talk about this website a lot but Bodybuilding.com is great. I buy some of my supplements there, but I also receive emails from them with different articles about lifting and food. Most emails have 7-10 articles included and I pick and choose the ones that interest me. I really liked this article about low-calorie foods, The 40 Best Low-Calorie Foods. Now, just because a food is high-calorie doesn’t mean that it is off-limits or unhealthy. If you are counting macros or calories then this might help you or if you are looking for a variety of foods to choose from. And no, it is not only fruit and veggies. Of course, fruits and veggies are low-cal, but this also includes grains, legumes, meats, dairy, nuts/seeds, and even seasonings. It describes each food and gives you suggestions for how to use it in your cooking or meal plan. I’m going to have to refer to this when I’m planning out my week’s meals…. I’m always looking for a “new” food.
5. Booties: It is fall time for boots and booties! I bought a pair of black booties a loooong time ago (before they were as popular as they are now), but I only wore them with long, boot-cut jeans. Now the trend is to wear them with skinny jeans. I was iffy on the fashion trend for a while, but then I bought a brown booties last year and have slowly been figuring out how to wear them. I happened to be browsing all the items on Zulily for the day and came across a shoe shop. I ended up buying not one, but two pairs of booties! I’m going to have to start experimenting a little more with the trend. Get our of my comfort zone a little….it’ll be fun! Below are the two I picked out.
Have a happy and safe Halloween!!!!
