Does anyone else feel this way throughout the week? Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Well hello cocktail!
Here is what has been going on with me this week…..
Cholon : I don’t know if I have talked about Cholon in Denver before or not. It is definitely worth a second (or third) time if I have! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. Randomly Donny got an email from United Airlines showing us an offer for a Visa Signature Exclusive Winemaker Dinner. Visa and United rented out all of Cholon for this event! I guess they do these all over the country throughout the year, but Donny said he has never seen one in Denver. We decided it was worth the points, since it is one of our favorites. You get to meet the chef, Lon Symensma. You also get to try several things on their menu and they pair some of them with wine. Lon comes out and explains the dish and their wine expert explains the wine and how they go together. We went last night and the winery they were featuring was Forth Vineyards from Sonoma, California. Jan Forth was there to talk about wines and she was a hoot. You could tell she loved what she was doing and loved being there. When we first got there we could enjoy wine and some of their appetizers, which included French onion soup dumplings (our favorite) and potstickers. Here is the rest of the menu. My other favorite is the Kaya Toast. It is life changing. Savory and sweet… my favorite combination!
Twenty One Pilots concert: Have you heard of these guys? Me neither. Hahaha but we are going to their concert on Sunday evening at Red Rocks. Yes, I am going to a concert on a Sunday. In the evening… whaaaat? Who am I?!?!Donny’s friend invited us to go with him, so we agreed. I’m not going to lie, I was iffy about the whole thing because it was a Sunday night and I don’t know the band. Well come to find out the Broncos play on Sunday evening!!! Yikes. We committed though so we are going. It is a good thing you are awesome Kellen, or we would have bailed! Just kidding, but seriously thanks for being awesome. It helps that the concert is at Red Rocks. Every concert there is fun! Plus the opener is Echo Smith, who sings “Cool Kids” & “Bright“. So that’s exciting. If you haven’t heard of Twenty One Pilots then check out this song “Stressed Out” (it was the first one that popped up on YouTube so it may or may not be their best song….it may or may not be their worst song).
Book Club: A couple of my friends & I started a book club. By that, I mean we are in the process of starting one. Our first meeting is October 21st. That is a big step — planning the first meeting is huge! We are going to meet once per month at someone’s house and talk about the book. I’m sure other discussions will go on as well…. but also some about the book! We decided to meet after dinner and enjoy dessert! Each week someone will host and another person is in charge of bringing dessert to share. Both responsibilities rotate throughout the group. We have been talking about doing this for a while and are finally getting details put together! It should be really fun and it will get me back into reading more often (I haven’t been reading much this summer). If you want to join then let me know! Also, if you have any suggestions for us then let me know too. We were looking for a name for our book club…. I thought “Reading Between the Wines” was catchy. Hahahaha does that send the wrong message? Or does it let those who are looking to join know what we are really about?!
12 Foods that Aren’t Nearly as Healthy as You Think: This article by Alexandra Duron is great. So many companies claim they have a “healthy” product, when really it is full of artificial ingredients, artificial coloring, sugar, trans fat, I could go on and on and on. Those things aren’t going to kill you, but they will not make you feel your best either. She talks about granola, dried fruit, sushi, protein bars, yogurt, etc. She also tells you what to look for on the nutrition label so you can compare different brands at the grocery store. Check out the list and make sure you aren’t consuming too many of these foods!
Black Mass: I really want to see this movie! Have you seen the previews? Have you seen the actual movie?! It stars Jonny Depp as Whitey Bulgar, who was an FBI informant in Boston in the 70s. It looks like my type of movie. It has a great cast too, including Joel Edgerton, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Kevin Bacon. Who doesn’t love a movie with Kevin Bacon?!?! Exactly.
Bench Press: I really want to work on increasing what I can bench press. We don’t do it that often in boot camp and I rarely bench press on my own. I do other chest exercises, including dumbbell presses, but hardly ever use the barbell. I asked Donny to assist me the other day so that I could go really heavy. I warmed up a couple rounds and then started adding some weight. I did 8 at 90lbs, 6 reps at 95lbs, 4 reps at 100lbs (which was my goal for that day). Then Donny was like “you can 2 reps at 105lbs”. Well I am competitive so of course I agreed. I did it! He barely had to spot me. So there is my starting weight and I am going to do it a little more often to try to raise that weight even higher!
Have a great weekend!!!
