I am no personal trainer. In fact, I pay someone else to train me! On non-bootcamp days, if I choose to lift I will sometimes just use different moves that I have learned over the years and incorporate them into supersets or trisets. Another resource that I use to get some new and fresh moves is Oxygen magazine. I have a subscription for the print version and I love the content. It talks about fitness and nutrition for women, with an emphasis on weight training. [Read more…]
We definitely live in beef country here in northeast Colorado, but I happened to have turkey on hand! You could make this recipe using lean ground beef or even ground chicken.
I was craving spaghetti and meatballs for dinner so I headed to Pinterest to find some recipes to start with. I am still new to recipe-creation so I look to other recipes for a basic idea and then tweek the recipe to our personal preferences. I found one I liked at HeAndSheEatClean.com called “Power Meatballs”. I was a newby to this blog, but I will have to go check it out again! [Read more…]
Energy bites are one of my favorite quick recipes and they are super easy to make. You can eat them for a snack or even as a healthy dessert if you have a sweet tooth (like I do!).

This pretty much sums up my thoughts on fitness…..
Strong is the new skinny….to get strong you need to lift weights. Lifting weights will not make you bulk up…it will make you lean and of course, strong! My goal is not to be stick thin. My goal is to be strong and healthy. However, I have not always liked lifting weights. In fact, I only found my love for it in the last few years. Here is a little background about my relationship with exercise over the years…. [Read more…]
The USDA did a study on pizza consumption and well, they found out that Americans eat a lot of pizza. Is anyone shocked by this?! I for one, am not. I love pizza. I would much rather make my own so that I know exactly what is in it. Donny & I threw this pizza together rather quickly the other night. We cheated and bought an already-made whole wheat pizza crust from Target. Probably not the healthiest crust ever, but definitely not the worst either. One of these days I will tackle making my own whole wheat crust…… [Read more…]
This is by far one of my favorite meals and it also happens to be one of the easiest! Perfect. Lettuce wraps are so refreshing and they can be made using whatever ingredients you already have. You can even use leftovers from a different meal to make these. I am telling you, the possibilities are endless.
Donny & I got the idea to make our own lettuce wraps after we ate at La Sandia Cantina in Denver. It is one of Richard Sandoval’s many restaurants and he really caters to gluten free. You can get tacos and fajitas in lettuce wraps instead of tortillas. They are amazing! [Read more…]
My food philosophy is pretty simple: eat clean. What does that mean?! Eating whole foods that are unprocessed and as close to their original state as possible. This means eating more fruits and vegetables. Choosing whole grains over bleached or processed ones. Getting protein from lean meats, legumes, and low-fat dairy products. Choosing snacks such as raw almonds vs. a bag of potato chips. Limiting soda and alcohol intake. Eating in moderation. Here is a great graphic by rebeldietician.us explaining the basics of “clean eating”. [Read more…]
