Green Chile Cornbread Muffins

Green Chile Cornbread Muffins-edit

Our book club starts a week from Wednesday and I am really excited about it! Our first book is The Secret Keeper and it is a mystery. In fact, the front cover says “An intriguing mystery with characters harboring deep secrets — People”. I love mysteries but it is not good for me to read mysteries when Donny is out of town! Anything & Everything Friday – October 9th

October 9, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

smile-its-friday-quote-1

Well hello weekend. I’m so happy to see you! This week honestly went crazy fast……I honestly don’t know where the time went. Well, it is time for my Anything & Everything Friday for this week.

1. Book Club: Our first meeting is October 21st and our first book is The Secret Keeper by Kate Morton. I have not read any of her books but this book made it on the New York Times Bestseller list so she must be a good writer! I haven’t started the book yet, but Donny will be gone a lot this month so I can get some good reading in! Plus, we have a trip coming up (see Cleveland Rocks) and I love reading on airplanes and while at airports. [Read more…]

Workout Wednesday: Ditch the Steady-State Cardio

October 7, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Workout Wednesday

I love this workout. Let me clarify, I love to hate this workout. What do I hate more? Steady-state cardio.

No, I really did enjoy the fact that this workout seriously kicked my a**. I mean kicked. my. ass. It was intense. It got my heart rate up in a hurry and it stayed there. It is one of those workouts that if you did more workouts that were similar in format they would get a little bit easier. Or at least you get use to the intensity and use to the feeling of having to push through. It always was a good reminder of why it is important to change up your workouts to challenge your body. Shoulder Workout

October 1, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Shoulders

I’m not positive, but I think it is a bad idea to watch TV shows about food right before bed. What do we do each evening before going to sleep? Watch a TV show about food…. silly us.

I enjoy the Cooking Channel more than the Food Network these days! There are some great shows on the Cooking Channel. The newest one we’ve discovered is Taco Trip. Aaron Sanchez, from the restaurant Johnny Sanchez in New Orleans, is the host and goes to different cities in order to find the best taco in the United States. I’ll take one for the team…I will go to every single restaurant featured on this show to see if it is #1 or not. What a horrible job, but someone has to do it. I know, very kind of me. [Read more…]

Caramel Apple Cookies-edit

So I had a really crazy weekend. Well crazy in my book!

Friday night we celebrated Cody’s Dirty Thirty by renting a limo to come get us in Fort Morgan, take us to Denver to a show at Comedy Works, and then bring us back to Fort Morgan. It was a blast. There were 12 of us that rode the limo up then two of our friends met us there. [Read more…]

Anything & Everything Friday – September 25, 2015

September 25, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday Evolution

Does anyone else feel this way throughout the week? Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Coffee. Well hello cocktail!

Here is what has been going on with me this week…..

Cholon : I don’t know if I have talked about Cholon in Denver before or not. It is definitely worth a second (or third) time if I have! It is one of my favorite restaurants in Denver. Randomly Donny got an email from United Airlines showing us an offer for a Visa Signature Exclusive Winemaker Dinner. Visa and United rented out all of Cholon for this event! I guess they do these all over the country throughout the year, but Donny said he has never seen one in Denver. We decided it was worth the points, since it is one of our favorites. You get to meet the chef, Lon Symensma. You also get to try several things on their menu and they pair some of them with wine. Lon comes out and explains the dish and their wine expert explains the wine and how they go together. We went last night and the winery they were featuring was Forth Vineyards from Sonoma, California. Jan Forth was there to talk about wines and she was a hoot. You could tell she loved what she was doing and loved being there. When we first got there we could enjoy wine and some of their appetizers, which included French onion soup dumplings (our favorite) and potstickers. Here is the rest of the menu. My other favorite is the Kaya Toast. It is life changing. Savory and sweet… my favorite combination! [Read more…]

Maple Dijon Brussels Sprouts

September 22, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Maple Dijon Brussels Sprouts Edit

Olympia 2015 is now over. Ashley Kaltwasser did in fact win the Bikini division for the third year in a row! Nicole Wilkins actually got beat. She took second place (which is still amazing!) while Latorya Watts took the top spot. This was her fist win and actually only her second time competing in the Olympia. Pretty impressive! Anything & Everything Friday – September 18th

September 18, 2015 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Hello Weekend

Happy Friday! Here are a few things going on in this crazy brain….

2015 Olympia : It is this weekend! The biggest bodybuilding competition of the year is going on now. I don’t follow very many male athletes, but I do know quite a few of the females competitors. I’m rooting for Nichole Wilkins! If she wins then she will have won the Figure Olympia a record five times! She won in 2009, 2011, and then back to back in 2013 & 2014. I follow her on Instagram and she is amazingly fit and strong. I don’t necessarily want to look just like her but she is very motivating! I also follow Ashley Kaltwasser who will compete in the Bikini Olympia. She has won the last two years now so this would be her third straight win! I would love to go to Las Vegas some time to see this. Even to just go to the Olympia Expo would be awesome! You’d get to see so many professional bodybuilders and so many cool fitness/nutrition companies. Fitness & Bikini finals are tonight and then I believe Figure finals are tomorrow. It’ll be fun to watch! [Read more…]
