Anything & Everything Friday – May 6th

May 6, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Grapes could have been wine

Well hello Friday that feels like Thursday! Yesterday felt like Wednesday and today feels like Thursday. Regardless of what day it is, I do not have to work tomorrow so I do not care! I plan to get some serious recipe development done over the weekend. Testing recipes of course, but also making already-tested recipes and getting pictures taken, recipes written, and blog posts ready for YOUR EYES.

But first, Anything & Everything Friday! Today I am discussing my new golf clubs, tips to get motivated to workout, and pictures of our finally-completed bar!

Golf clubs: We went up to Denver last Saturday so I could get fitted for some new golf clubs! I wanted a new set of irons and possibly a new driver, depending on price. I ended up with TaylorMade M2’s Irons that are amazing! They were a little more than we wanted to spend without getting a driver, but it came with 6 iron through sandwedge, plus two hybrid clubs instead of a 3 & 4 iron. I never hit my 3 or 4 iron and I LOVE hybrid clubs. Worked out perfectly! I was fitted using my 7 iron and I legitimately hit the new iron 15-20 yards farther than the 7 iron I currently own. Crazy! I tried out a couple drivers and fell in love with the Callaway Women’s XR, but it was a little out of our price range. I could hit it straight (which isn’t out of the ordinary) but it went 45-50 yards farther than the driver in my old set! No joke. On average, I hit it 245 yards! We did not buy the Callaway, but bought a used TaylorMade driver. I was honestly exhausted by the end and had a blister forming on my hand! I think it will be a great club but we’ll have to see in the next few weeks.

KitchenAid Mixer: Along with new golf clubs, we decided to bite the bullet and purchase a KitchenAid mixer. Donny has wanted one since he graduated college and never bought one. We’ve talked about buying one together since we got married and we finally did! We decided on the KictchenAid Professional 600 Series 6-Quart in the pearl metallic color. Not only that, Donny wanted the 3-Piece Pasta Roller attachment set to go with it so he could make homemade pasta. I was not mad about that addition! We had two couples over Sunday afternoon and Donny whipped up quite the spread for us! He made homemade spaghetti with butter, salt, pepper, and Parmesan. He also made a rosa sauce (marinara with cream) with peas and broccoli in it to go over homemade fettuccini. Both were so good! He grilled up a New York strip and we had caprese salad on the side. Not a typical Sunday lunch for us, but delicious! Maybe we need to start making our Sunday lunches that elaborate… hahaha I don’t know if Donny would be up for that. It would interfere with his golfing addiction! Regardless, the meal was awesome and I can’t wait to use the KitchenAid myself.

Prevent Guac From Browning: Do you have any leftover guacamole from Cinco de Mayo? If so, what is wrong with you! I will just go ahead and assume if you have leftover guac then you probably made enough to feed a small-to-medium-sized village and so couldn’t get through it all. Otherwise, there is no good excuse. I have a seriously difficult time keeping out of the guacamole. Nom nom nom. Well IF you ever find yourself in a situation where you have leftover guacamole or mashed avocado then use this quick little tip to keep it from going brown! Check out this video The Incredibly Easy Way to Prevent Guacamole From Going Brown by Jenna Haufler (found on Greatist.com). Seriously five steps total and they are basically the easiest steps ever. Maybe not quite as easy as eating a gallon of guacamole, but still pretty dang easy!

Motivation: I enjoy working out a lot and I do it as a hobby, not as a job, so I don’t find it too difficult to find motivation to work out. It is seriously something I really enjoy doing. However, I don’t always feel super motivated to have the best workout ever. I will keep some of these tips in my back pocket for the next time I feel myself in the middle of a workout and am just going through the motions. Alexa Tucker compiled this list for Self.com 17 Women Share Their Best Tips For Getting Motivated To Work Out. There are typical ones like write down your goals, workout with your BFF, and make a killer playlist. There are also other ideas like embrace your competitive side (if you have one, which I do). I honestly think that is what motivates me through certain workouts. I actually find that I compete with myself and what I have done before (last time I did bench press I could do 105lbs for 4 reps, so I think I’ll try doing 110lbs this time). Another tip I liked was to listen to artists that inspire you. It takes build-a-killer-playlist up a notch, don’t you think? Read through the rest of tips to find one or two that will work for you.

Basement Bar: Our bar is finally done! It was pretty much done six weeks ago when my parents hosted their annual beer tasting party down there. There was one more thing that needed to be finished and now that piece is complete! I am in LOVE with it. I was nervous midway through that I would hate it because we were mixing wood stains and grains and I just wasn’t sure. However it is done and I seriously love it! Check out the pictures…or even better, come over for a cocktail!

As you can see I have just a couple more pictures that need to be hung on the way, but otherwise it is finished. Yay!

That’s all for today. Have a great weekend!
