Anything & Everything Friday – May 20th

May 20, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Anything & Everything Friday Cat

I’m not going to lie, this is probably me tonight. SUPER busy……

Time for Anything & Everything Friday. A weekly post where I like to share with you five different topics of my choosing. I try to keep them health related, even if the part that makes it healthy is simply the fact that it is a hilarious video or picture that will make you laugh. Laughing is healthy! Today I have a short video about why we crave foods (not a funny one, sorry), our book club book, and an update on Kevin!

Power of One:

I’m sure if I discussed our most recent Book Club book, but it was The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay. We were suppose to have book club this last Wednesday, but needed to move it back a week. This is probably a good thing because I have REALLY been struggling to read it. I don’t know if it is my mood or if it is the book. The chapters are really long (sometimes 40+ pages) and I have a hard time stopping mid-chapter. There aren’t even that many breaks in the middle of chapters either that would make a good stopping point. I struggled through the first 200 pages, then the other night I read a chapter and finally it clicked. I actually wanted to keep reading! I read another chapter, but it was getting late so I stopped at two (which was still 75+ pages). I think I am actually going to end up liking the book, but it has been difficult to get into so far. I don’t see myself NOT finishing the book before our meeting next week, so I am going to have to bust out a lot of pages the next few days. Have you read The Power of One? Did you like it?

Good Mood:

Self.com posted an article identifying 9 Secrets of Women Who Are Always In A Good Mood. I feel like I am in a good mood a lot of the time. Then other times I’m NOT. Overall, I feel like I am in a good mood! I never analyzed why I am in a good mood, but I do practice several of these secrets. I exercise daily, I get enough sleep most the time, I play with my dogs, and, at this point in my life, I can put myself (and Donny) first. I need to keep these other secrets in mind for the next time I’m in a crummy mood. I need to try to mediate because I’ve read about all the great benefits mentally that come from it. I love having fresh light in the house or office so I need to make sure that’s the case if I’m not super chipper. The one secret that I have to be in a good mood is to look at the Animals page on Pinterest. It works every time. I’ll keep these ideas in my back pocket. What helps get you out of a bad mood?

Budget-Friendly Foods:

Wanting to eat healthy, but are on a budget? Well you can do both, I promise! My Fitness Pal put together a list of 45 budget-friendly AND healthy food items. In fact, they made a printable sheet so you can print it off to help make your grocery list or plan your meals! There are some really great foods listed including bananas, apples, broccoli, carrots, dried beans, eggs, lentils, peanut butter, brown rice…the list goes on and on. It breaks down the price for you too in order to show you price per “serving”. What are your favorite inexpensive foods?

Cravings:

Do you crave foods every once in a while? Every day maybe? If you say no, then congratulations! You are a lucky one. I however crave foods every once in a while. Why is it that we crave chocolate and sweets, rather than craving celery? Wouldn’t it be easier if we craved celery, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers?!?!?! Well take three minutes to watch this video, Cravings: Why You Crave Chocolate & Not Celery which talks about WHY we crave foods. It does get a bit scientific, but not so much that it doesn’t make sense. Turns out, cravings are all psychological. DANG IT! I want to blame it on the fact that my body NEEDS the chocolate cake….

Kevin Update:

Kevin

The top two pictures were taken the afternoon that we got him back. The two on the right hand side are of him while we were letting him grow his hair out (it was really uneven when we got him, so we were waiting a bit). Then the one on the bottom left-hand side is him with his hair-did. He looks like a completely different dog. So adorable.

Today is our 3 month anniversary with K-Fed! Well, it is the 3 month anniversary of when we picked Kevin up from the foster. Next week will be our 3 month anniversary of when we got Kevin BACK! He is doing great. He has gained 8lbs, which is almost twice the size he weighed when we found him! He is quite playful with me and loves giving me wet willies, no joke. He is still a bit terrified by Donny and doesn’t do well when visitors come over. He is actually getting a lot better, but won’t just walk up to stranger and hang out.

He got a haircut a few weeks ago and looks like a normal dog now! Not scrawny and hairless. He is super cute and we love him. He and Doug are getting along just fine, although I think Dougie Fresh gets jealous when I give Kevin some lovin’. Hopefully by 6 months Kevin will be running around playing with Donny too! He did play for a few minutes with him yesterdy morning, but then got scared again. I’m not sure exactly what happens in his mind that makes it flip a switch like that, but it does. We call him a scared-y cat, which is quite fitting! Oh K-Fed, we love you.

That is everything for today. Have a great weekend!
