Anything & Everything Friday – February 19th

February 19, 2016 by johnson_mel@hotmail.com

Friday - Show Up

This week has been quite weird. I thought Tuesday was Wednesday, that Wednesday was Thursday, and that Thursday was Wednesday. Yikes. Regardless, it is FRIDAY! Time for Anything & Everything Friday, where I discuss five random things with you. The topics range from food to fitness to anything going on in my life….. here we go.

1.Winter Hands: I don’t know about you, but my hands get crazy dry in the winter! I drink a lot of water which leads to going to the bathroom a lot, which in turn leads to me washing my hands all. the. time. The warm water and the cold weather tends to dry my hands out quite a bit…. no bueno. Check out this DIY solution that I found that is only two ingredients (that happen to come from the kitchen). Is it clean eating? No, but don’t eat it. Use it on your hands, crazy! Check out Well & Good’s solution to dry hands with Winter Hands Saved: An Awesome Treatment Using Two Items In Your Kitchen.

2.Doug’s Brother: We are adopting another dog! We’ve been “looking” for a while now and I even filled out a few applications every now and then. Nothing really came from any of them until this one. I was looking online for terriers and came across Zeus, a mix between a terrier and a Lhasa Apso. He is adorable and came from Texas a couple weeks ago. He’d been in a really awful situation with some other dogs and the rescue in Boulder, CO was looking for homes for a bunch of dogs. I filled the application out last Friday. I had to list three references and I’ve never had a rescue contact them. Well one of them said they got a call that Friday and gave us an A+ rating! I was shocked they called them that quickly. The lady going through applications called me that afternoon and we chatted for a while about Zeus. She thought we’d be a great fit! By Saturday morning I’d set up a time with Zeus’ foster to pick him up the next week! We are getting him tomorrow!!! He had to be neutered before we could pick him up and since we live over an hour away we decided Saturday was best. I am really excited, but slightly nervous. I spoke with the foster mom and she said he is a sweetheart and a cuddler! I hope he & Doug get along. I’m sure they will! I’ll be sure to post plenty of pictures of our newest edition as soon as we can! Doug may not be too impressed right off the bat, but I’m sure he’ll love having a friend around.

3.Eggs: Visual Proof That Everything Is Better With An Egg On It. Enough said. This is an article put together by Thrillist.com and it will make you drool. Literally. I hope I didn’t mess up my laptop when I got slobber all over it. I personally love eggs cooked over-easy, and I genuinely feel bad for people who hate them. I want you to be able to stomach how wonderful egg yolks make other foods. It is so wonderful when the yolk is running and it gets distributed throughout the dish into every nook and cranny. It is my favorite. In fact, I will order (or make) an egg white omelet or scramble and then cook an additional single egg over-easy so that I can have the runniness, but still have the egg white scramble. Yes, I’ve ordered an egg white scramble at a restaurant with an over-easy egg on the side. Yes, I did get a strange look from the waitress and from the people I was dining with. Did I regret the decision? Not one bit. Ok, back to the article. The pasta was intriguing, as well as the fried rice. I like both those ideas. Check it out…

4.Hip Stretches: Do you suffer from extremely tight hip flexors, or is it just me? I tend to hold tension in my hips occasionally when I lift, mostly when doing certain ab exercises. I also work out a lot so my hips need to be stretched often. MyFitnessPal.com has 8 Hip Stretches Your Body Really Needs. I do some of these fairly regularly (deep squat stand, spiderman stretch, and pigeon which is similar to the figure 4 hip stretch). I need to incorporate a few of these others into my routine. I also like happy baby and frog pose, if you are familiar with yoga terms. What are your go-to hip stretches?!

5.Hershey Kiss: Have you seen the new Hershey Kiss flavor for Easter?! Carrot cake. Whhhaaaaattt? I’m not sure how I feel about that. I love carrot cake, don’t get me wrong. But in chocolate form? I don’t know. Have you seen these? Or have you tried them?! I’m intrigued…. Delish.com has the details about these Carrot Cake Hershey Kisses. Carrot cake seems to be making a comeback this year. A lot of food companies are using that flavor for their spring treats and I have been seeing it quite on a few food blogs. I don’t mind that at all…. maybe I’ll jump on board! Muffins… energy bites… oatmeal…. mmmmm.

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend! If all goes well tomorrow I’ll post pictures of our newest edition! Eeeeek, I’m nervous yet really excited.

Yes! I love the yolk too. I used to love sunny side up but have moved to over- easy. So I still get the yolk but I don’t miss any. Since sometimes I can’t get all of it up!

I am the same way. I am generally disappointed when there is leftover yolk!
